Thread: Taylor Hobson cutter grinder. |

Hello, Ive been online, but nothing about this particular unit. Yes, perhaps it is something to do with pantographs. The chap I bought it from , said his son took 2 TH pantographs down the scrapyard. |

Hello all, just purchased this Taylor Hobson grinder unit from a friend who didnt really know what it was and neither do I !. Its a (heavy) nicely made bit of kit and presume its for grinding some sort of cutters, so the question is, what would have been its purpose ?. Many thanks. |

Heres a suggestion, just think of the hundreds of 4 way tool posts that arent used anymore !. So, a section for who can come up with the best adaptation of one for something else, apart from a door stop. Better than throwing them in the scrap.Ive one that has a seperate indexing handle on it that could be perhaps modified for use on a milling machine table !!. |

Hello all, if you have a lathe that takes 5c collets, you could use one these, a Master Expanding collet. One came with my lathe, but have never used it !. |

Thread: Multifix Retracting Toolholder. |
27/01/2015 20:20:03 |
Nick, I must admit, Ive done some screwcutting near a shoulder, and you are right, the tool starts to rub on the shoulder at the end of the procedure on my HLVH. Perhaps down to about 16tpi, it would be better to infeed at right angles to the job, instead of at an angle. On the bigger lathe, the retracting toolholder is perfect !. Regards, Roger. |

Nick, I like the bed covers on your Hardinge, or is it a Feeler. Also, if you dont mind me asking, what are the advantages with a retracting toolholder, fitted to a retracting topslide ?. |

Comet make the inserts I think. |
27/01/2015 15:54:08 |
Hello capnahab, I couldnt get an insert, so I made a new spindle and welded the end of a carbide insert threading tool to it. I think its one of JB Cutting tools , about £20. Works a treat. I think Clive mentioned how expensive the original ones are, about £100 |

Hello all, I bought one of the cheapo digital calipers, about £10, and the battery is still OK after nearly a year. Its also a good bit of kit too. |

Hello all, I cant for the life of me understand what the problem is !. I presume someone dislikes Larry Coleman 1's posts, thats what appears to me anyway. Ive found them very interesting, along with all the other answers. Perhaps Bogstandard would enlighten me !. |

John Stevenson, as a bloke who does it for a living, and must have parted off hundreds of times, what are your thoughts on the subject ?. For instance, do you use power feed ?. Thanks. |

About the madness of the disgusting way a man was treated lying face down in a shallow pond, there was a similar incident in Somerset a couple of years back when ambulance crews refused to help a passer by supporting a drowning person in a deep ditch, because of health and safety. A policeman turned up in a car, and without hesitation , jumped in to try and help. They got the person to safety, but to no avail. The judge summing up at the inquest, said something like " in times gone by, people helped each other without regard to their own safety, not any more. " How sad. |

Martin Cottrell, that was a good one about the building site !. Excellent thread this !!. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine saw a bloke on a golf course laying turf, who was made to wear a hard hat !!.He could have been hit on the head bya meteorite I suppose. |

Watched a section from the news on tv sometime back, before the first train pulled out the newly refurbished St Pancras station. Standing on the platform were a dozen or so dignatories, of whom included a government minister, a few MP,s, and railway management, ALL dressed in high viz jackets, hard hats and eye protection. They then stepped on the train and off they went. Beaurocrasy gone bleeding mad. |

Ady1, at least some of the stations have been saved !. Birmingham Snow Bill wasnt though, bas*****. Brainless traitors in local government. Even worse in my view, were the numbers of beautiful stately homes knocked down because the owners couldnt or wouldnt pay the inheritance tax. wtf.!. |
