Thread: Adding a DRO to my mill |

Richard, single phase motors ?? horizontal and vertical. I too have one of these machines and fitting the DRO is the next job. Be aware that the X axis fitted to the back of the table, ideally needs to be as shallow as possible so as not to lose travel. The Y axis is tricky to fit and the Z normally ends up on the column side. There is a Yahoo group for Elliott owners **LINK** A photo gallery which has quite few Omnimills fitted with DRO should help with design / fitment |

Hi Dino,
(Hope you don't mind the shortening but my typing gets tired at this time of night). I'd certainly agree with you on the very small sizes but there are suppliers on the continent who will post to the UK and seem to be cheaper than here.
I think that hex head screws and bolts are very specialised and in quite small production runs. Most very small stuff seems to be cross or torx heads. I just think that we have to grit our teeth and bear it like it or not. Actually I just looked at the Bruce Engineering catalogue on the Polly site and m1.2 (about 13BA) set screws x 12 mm long are quoted as around 15p each for scale hex head rolled thread screws. I didn't think that too bad. But they're not ht. The French supplier mentioned in another thread seem to have a good range of high spec screws at reasonable prices.
Terry
Which French supplier as i can't find anything by searching the forum ?? |

Nigel, would love to see some pics, my uncle owns one and mentioned the issue with the vertical head. I'd be interested to look at your increasing rigidity design. Philip |

Thank you Mark, This really has helped me and I hope to be able to progress to fitment on my machine. Mine is of the later design, the same as you used for milling the aluminium on, with the motor on the table. Two handles on the table ..luxury Philip |

Hi Jay, The motor that is on the machine now will forward and reverse it just needs suitable wiring. If you weren't using an inverter you would just have to wire it through a suitable switch, but the inverter will control speed as well as forward an reverse. Thread: Elliot Omnimil DRO's |

Mark, More pictures would be most welcome, thanks for the explanation. To be honest my machine was running perfectly well but with the strip down to move and the motors off, it seemed ludicrous not to tackle everything whilst it's in bits than doing it later. Painting wouldn't have come into it had it not been for this as well.. Philip |

Hi Mark, Yes it was me that message you regarding the DRO, have you bonded that piece holding the front of the X axis ?(behind the knee handle). Currently on to sorting out the electrical side and have the base casting in primer. I haven't got round to thinking out the DRO yet, but this will help Philip

With regards the Table motor, I recently got a Elliott Omnimill and paid a local motor rewinders to pull the star point. The cost per motor was £60 this including replacing the bearings, pulling the star point out and a re-varnish. So I am not sure were you are located but this maybe a viable option, thus enabling you to run on inverters as planed.
