Thread: Number drills? |
05/10/2022 16:06:25 |
Proops offer a number drill gauge with thou equivalents on their own site or via Amazon for £2.40 delivered. The .001" conversions match those on my conversion table, so as long as you don't want to go smaller than #60 it should be fine. Unfortunately it is however almost impossible to find in a search thanks to Amazon's bizarre search results. Try either: - 1 Search "gauge" on Proops Brothers' website; 2 Go to page 2, it is the first item. Or: - 1 Search Amazon UK for "drill gauge"; 2 Click on a Proops one to open the product page; 3 Click on the sold by "proops brothers ltd" link at the right to get to the vendor page; 4 Click on the "Visit the proops brothers ltd storefront" link; 5 Go back to the search box at the top and search again for "drill gauge"; 6 If you haven't given up by then, scroll down to "More Results" to find it. The set of 4 that Rob suggested should be slightly further down the page on either website, but reading the description it is actually a set of 3 as there isn't a metric one! I HATE trying to find anything on Amazon, but if I am having a bad day it is a great way to lose my temper and let it all out... Brian G |

It is a generic version of an Eclipse Goscut, a hand nibbler primarily for laminates and veneers. The Eclipse version came with three different trigger/blade units for straight, curved or (something else?) cuts. Brian G |

Personally at a price of under £5 (current price of the box of 360 assorted stainless link pins I bought last year from Amazon), I would accept the waste and buy them, if only to salvage some parts for your own version. Brian G |

I think the octagonal bore rifle is the one that Queen Victoria used to open the NRA shooting contest at Bisley by hitting the bullseye at extreme range (spoiler - the rifle was set up in a fixture so all she had to do was pull the trigger). Brian G (There may be a reference to this in David Gladwin's "History of the British Steam Tram", unfortunately my copy is at my son's house). |

Might be worth putting some coloured caps away whilst they are available. My wife found some cardboard tubes for which they are a perfect fit. They are a handy way to store silver solder, skimmed or semi-skimmed identifies which flux to use. (She used the idea first, keeping different kinds of washing powder in 6-pint milk cartons - we had to go to Waitrose for the white caps). Brian G |

Heresy perhaps, but it might be cheaper to buy a cheap Chinese set and try out the spring from that. If it doesn't fit you could sell it on or have a second-best set. Brian G |

If your PC is Windows 7 or newer you should have a "Print to PDF" option in your printer menu. If not there are free add-ons such as Bullzip for XP or later (they also offer an unsupported version for Windows 2000/2003). Brian G Edit: There are also AutoCAD viewers for iPhone and Android if all you want is to view on the phone. Edited By Brian G on 16/08/2022 17:36:51 |

Are the tracking systems for these and similar ..... services ..... any better in the UK than on this side of the pond? So often these days, tracking consists of: shipped ... in transit .... delivered. (Often preceded with several days of "label generated" ). None of this tells me any more than an email telling me the vendor has shipped. Edited By Peter Greene 🇨🇦 on 15/08/2022 23:02:09 Coincidentally, the last page I looked at before this was to track a delivery on Yodel (a few years back voted Britain's worst delivery network). Right now the driver is on drop 13 of 101 and is expected with me between 15:15 and 17:15. There is even a map showing where he is now. If I wasn't going to be in I could click to rearrange delivery and the driver's app would be updated accordingly. Several other networks offer similar information. Brian G |

I dreaded doing this from day one, so as our Chester lathe and Sieg mill both have the same rotary rev-off-fwd switches I printed a little stopper. It fits tightly to the sides of the square switch bezel, but can be slid up and down to prevent the switch being put into reverse without first moving the stopper. It has worked so far (touch wood). I haven't got access to the machines right now so cannot take a photo, so here is a render of the STL. Thread: Help with dial indicator and stand |

This may sound silly, but have you tried taking the clamp apart and testing each hole in both the inner and outer part or rotating the outer drum of the clamp 90 degrees relative to the inner one to line up the other inner and outer holes? Often these clamps have a pair of larger holes and a pair of smaller ones in each part, and if you have large and small lined up instead of large and large, (possible if the fitting that is already in there for a clamp back dial indicator is the smaller size) the hole will effectively be the smaller size. It depends on what you want to make, practical items suit a filament printer like the Ender range, whilst decorative items and models might require sanding, filling and priming, On the other hand, resin printers (Elegoo and Anycubic both have good reputations) produce much finer detail which is great for miniatures, but the prints need washing and curing. What I want to know is why are the glass bottles from the milk man differant colours from the plastic ones from the suppermarket? Glass bottles were permitted to remain in pint measures (legally 568ml) because they were a pre-existing reusable container. Although I just said I had no idea about the current plastic bottle colour codes, I would guess that they were harmonised for the single market, whilst glass bottle foil remained with the 1973 colours. I've no idea where the current colour code originates, but it differs from the colours used on the foil caps on glass milk bottles which were set out in the Milk and Dairies (Milk Bottle Caps) (Colour) Regulations 1973 Brian G |

I assume you mean something like this, various types tested here. Thor That's the sorta thing looks like a paste rather tthan liquid for ham-fisted use... pgk If you are worried about ham-fisted use make sure you get a non-conductive thermal grease. The more expensive high performance "liquid metal" pastes are electrically conductive and if any gets on the pins you may say goodbye to the processor, and there is no need for them unless you are seriously overclocking.
