thanks for the advice jason it sounds like a good idea i would have a fully solderd boiler and still have the rivets for show. the boiler is for a dairy engine so would not be used in public.thanks again jason and sorry for the late reply

hi
i have drawings for a verticle boiler that is of riveted construction ,i have know idea of how to rivet. is it possible to silver solder and fit dummy rivets.
hope someone can help.

hi
a trick i read years ago in a gunsmiths book. when try ing to heat up a job say a reamer you have made that goes to a very fine point and you burn the end off trying to heat it evenley. heat a tin of lead lower the job in it will heat it evenly ready for quenching .hope this is of use to someone

hi
my lathe is a chester db7 with a3.5 center hight and a mt 3 mandrel so i will go for an er32 system and hopefully get the best of both words,anyway whats another weeks pension in a search for happiness

the mill i have is the warco mini mill drill it was bought new from warco two months ago when the head is at its lowest position there is about 3.5 inches from the bed
chronos do a posilock collet system chuck and eight collets for£85. also a soba system
with 15 er colletts and chuck for £115. warco are about £99 for chuck and 4 colletts
any advise on the best one to go for, as havent a clue

thanks everyone for your advice i cant see anyway of lowering the head,so i will go for buying a proper chuck and collets.i like the idea of makeing a sub table sounds very usefull.

i have recently bought a warco mill drill and some mt3 collets .every thing ok working in the vise but cutter wont reach workpiece when on the bed am i doing somthing wrong or do i need to extend the cutter somehow hope somebody can help

hi all
would like some advice on the canterbury lamb,as my first locomotive build does the boiler have to be rolled or would copper tube of the same size do .as ihave no rolling equipment .i have built marine engines in the past,and have just bought a mill so would like to build somthing a bit different
