Nearly all of the AGR's have 660MW turbine sets , far too big to be fed from SMR's..

Not ideal , but some decent coal-fired boiler sets could be built adjacent to the reactor buildings.

You must have missed the ' scorched earth ' series of explosions permanently destroying Didcot, Ferrybridge ,etc ..

There is no chance of 'going back' , to save us.

Daily Tel item 26/7/2013 Imports of oil gas rise to record high.

43% of fossil fuels come from abroad.

Petrol £1.34/litre.

Wind contributed 1% of electrical energy., target for 2020 is 15%.

The '1940' blip on the chart could be a result of the colossal destruction, and then use of oil/coal , to effect the outcome of WW2.

Agreed, it couldn't happen to ' us' with a separate public water supply.

But , IF the aquifer that public water supply is being drawn from is 'contaminated' then , no potable water for anyone in that area.

Want to risk it ?

I have a book , Resources and Man, produced by the National Academy of Sciences , started in '66, printed in '69.

Written before ' the Internet' , Containerisation , and China , became the 'go to' for everything manufactured ,

It foresees and predicts everything that is happening , now , with chilling accuracy..

With resources finite , the conclusion is inevitable.

I quote , " The inescapable conclusion is that both population control and better resource management are mandatory and must be effected with as little delay as possible."

Just highlights what a brilliant decision France made back in the 50/60's to invest in nuclear/hydro projects.

Led by technocrats , not bankers.

Texas alone is five times the size of England.

Plenty of reports from other regions expelling 'gas' from their water taps..

In the UK it is too late for nuclear , so fracking is their only way out.

26/09/2021 18:22:07

I will 'bet my shirt' the government will now allow major 'fracking' to go ahead on 'land' sites, with the excuse , there is 'no alternative'.

Just treasure the last few years of extracting potable water from our aquifers.

26/09/2021 14:02:37

Which is exactly why we should have been building more nuclear stations.

The present gamble on super large, untested , 3.2 GW units , now that was incredibly stupid...........but predictable.

Try Zimmer Tower Lier Belgium if you want to know the time, anywhere in the universe !

All made by one 'watchmaker'.

Nice wordplay ,certainly a beautiful county.

Next visit, try approaching via Theberton church ( Zepellin ), Snape , Blythburgh church, ( Cromwell used it as a stable, the doors were hit by lightning ,marks of the Devil ) , Southwold , Beccles , Belton and Burgh , Oulton Broad then on to your Norfolk Broads.

Don't forget, we lost 1GW with Dungeness, then 1GW with the French link, then 4GW no wind.

All made up by gas, to make electricity.

22/09/2021 14:45:17

I have just opened my British Gas Evolve website, the account has been set to zero , there are now a huge number of ' new tariffs ' to choose from. All to suit the 'new' prices.

22/09/2021 10:47:14

Yes, the particulates are filtered out ,not sure if the CO2 is 'recycled' these days.

Certainly 'losses' are made up by 'new' CO2.

22/09/2021 10:17:32

And not a single mention on any media that it is a vital component for our nuclear stations.

Only for food and killing animals.

21/09/2021 08:58:37

Add to that , major users of CO2 are..............our remaining AGR nukes !

No CO2..........no electricity.

The lights stayed on courtesy of running up the 'emergency generators ' the OCGT's , massively inefficient devices.

Luckily it was summer , again.

16/09/2021 13:00:01

Great idea JL , I will be happy to be connected to the Grid , as long as the 'new generation' are pedaling away too, and with no complaint , because they were "too busy" to see this situation happening.

16/09/2021 11:14:56

I notice ,today , we have had to use the OCGT units , these are little more than 25% efficient.

Desperate times and it is still only summer.
