Thread: Where do the parcels go ? |
24/01/2021 08:26:48 |
This is it, the end of the saga, with much credit to all those on this forum who unlocked the door. Getting a Claim Form to fill in proved to be the turning point , it pushed me into learning how to screendump/download/fix attachments on-line. Because sending the paperwork to the Head Office in Leeds will not work ! On-line only. Such a shame that myHermes make it so difficult but, in the end, they have fully refunded me the value of the item they transmuted back into its original elements. Would love to see how they did that. |
Thread: Motor reverse switch 3 phase |

This from the Blue Line on-line catalogue F071 plate, like yours. Line Connection is terminal 2 (say red phase supply ) Switch Position 1 , term 2 will connect to term 3 Position 0 + off Position 2 , term 2 will connect to term 1) Line Connection is terminal 6 (say yellow phase ) SW pos 1 , term 6 will connect to term 7 SW pos 0= Off SW pos2 , term 6 will connect to term 5 Line Connection is terminal 10 ( say blue phase ) SW pos 1 term 10 to 11 SW pos 0 = Off SW pos 2 term 10 to 9 FOURTH POLE 14 to 15 OFF 14 to 13 |

Looks like a Blue Line switch. Google 'Blue Line' , all the information you need is in their catalogue/ pdf page. |

Sorry, but that T Deg to the fourth power is THE most important change that takes place inside the locomotive firebox to increase steam raising when it is needed most..

Well done MT , using the correct units makes it credible. |
19/01/2021 18:09:48 |
MT, yes, you are right that the units should be Watt hours but the principle Laws of Thermodynamics seem to be not applicable to this new form of transport ie something no more powerful than your Super 7 motor is powering a tonne+ of car along at 60mph.. This is truly amazing. |
19/01/2021 16:19:38 |
Real question. Why /how can it only take 500w/mile to propel a Tesla at 60mph when a petrol/diesel has to output 30kw to achieve the same speed, with the same weight,,tyre,,bearings/rolling/wind resistance, etc ? |
19/01/2021 16:13:18 |
That's where I find the figures hard to believe. A Tour de France cyclist just about manages to achieve that output , with nothing like one tonne of metal to hump about at 60mph.
|

What am I getting wrong here ? Easy near enough round figures. This/any electric car is traveling 240 miles on a charge of 60kwh = 4miles/kwh Now, to travel at 60mph in any car requires , say, 40bhp or 30kw at the wheels, flat road. So, to travel 240 miles you will consume 4x 30kwh = 120kwh= 2miles/kwh |
Thread: Butch - can it come back to life? |

In view of it's age, just be careful if you find ASBESTOS in the lagging. Nice locomotive , definitively worth the effort to get back on the rails again. |

How much convected or conducted heat do we receive from the Sun ? So, that just leaves 'radiant heat' and that is from 96million miles away. That's the importance of radiant heat in any boiler. |

I think the name of the flux is Coralite. |
Thread: Where do the parcels go ? |
17/01/2021 20:24:23 |
The saga continues slowly , but this has to be good for a laugh in these dire times. So, more emails to the CEO finally aroused Aakash to reply. They had damaged the item so badly they had to dispose of it for Health and Safety reasons. The item had a very close resemblance to the business end of a 1.5lb ball pein hammer ! Dropping it in a live blast furnace or a light steam hammer blow while red hot , might have damaged it, a bit , but NOTHING like that in the collection van that I saw. Now for the Claim Form, it 'ain't' over yet I feel.

Thread: Where do the parcels go ? |

I AM the sender. Luckily, I was able to fulfill my side of 'the contract' by sending 'the buyer' an identical item, via ROYAL MAIL.

Just an update ! Following advice above, I did manage to get an automated email reply from Hermes. But no action. Email to CEO and assured M Sibanda would personally be assigned to my case. But no action. Further email to CEO and assured E bhatti would personally be assigned to my case. But no action yet.................... Will keep you informed.

Industrial boilers in small factories/hospitals, etc, have burner 'spyhole' glasses of about that size. You could try your local British Steam Specialities BSS stockist. |

Thread: Start circuitry for a single phase air compressor motor. |
03/01/2021 19:42:58 |
Air compressors can take some 'grunt' to start but 3hp should cope with that. You really need to establish whether that second winding can remain in circuit , or not. It may be an induction start, ie you don't need a capacitor. |
