Thread: Why are 3 phase motors with VFD so popular in the UK? |

Not sure why you would say 3 phase/VSD is uncommon in Australia. It is a common topic on many (Aus) forums I visit. Often someone has purchased a used 415v 3 phase machine and wants to run it on 240v single phase at home. Sometimes they want the easy speed control or other features. |

Stuart, did you get my message? |

Well, it “only” took me about 24 hours to work out what the tang was for! Lucky I did not have to make any important decisions in that time with my lack of seeing the obvious! The tang lines up with the locking screw which is on the side of the end stop and gets forced onto the thread of the stop. |

I noticed one of the brass bushings on an original stop had started to come out so I removed it. Interesting! The bush has 3 cuts in it to create a “tang”. Could this be a method to help lock the screw? |

Stuart, thanks for reply. I am lucky that my Hauser is a w10/P10 spindle. Yes, somehow holding those circular stops for machining is a problem. One of my thoughts was to drill and thread the hole for the stop itself (mine are M7x0.75 but I would consider changing to the more available M8x1.0) and then use that to attach the body of the stop onto a faceplate. Do you have a drawing of a circular stop? Thanks, Jon |

Stuart, if you are still reading these posts. I am interested in how you went with casting the endstops. I have some straight ones, so can copy but do not have any circular stops. Did the 3d printed patterns work well? Jon |
Thread: Any info on these two items? |

First and 3rd photo seem to be (some) of a Schaublin sv11 milling machine. |

These are all I have at the moment. I agree the top one looks like part of a horizontal mill but missing the tilting table |

The inner race on mine was reasonably easy to slide off the spindle - a slight friction fit. The bearing really cannot go anywhere once the spindle has been locked. |

Tony, have you seen this? It might be worth contacting Adam to see how he went with his belt change Your “selector shaft arrangement” - do you mean the shaft and bearing that enables the epicyclic gears? Mine only had the inner race on the shaft when I got it.

Thread: small Hauser oilers |
01/06/2021 13:02:12 |
Thanks Phil. Now that I have found the automotive link, M7 is used a "fair" bit - brake nipples, rocker arm adjustment, Vespa scooter bolts, etc I too have m7 taps (and possibly a die) but not necessarily the time I would take for a small fitting! I think a modified brake nipple is first choice (especially as I leave the Hauser "intact" |
01/06/2021 12:24:12 |
However, I may have found a simple possibility - motorcycle brake bleed nipples (seem common in M7 x 1.0)

A newly acquired Hauser milling machine is missing the two oiler assemblies on the headstock. Before I either drill out and re thread M8 x 1 or make a new extender as in photo to take a M8 oiler: 1. Does anyone know of a source of any M7 x 1.0 oilers? 2. a source for M8 oiler similar to those in image? Thanks, Jon |
Thread: Pultra 1590 bearings |
30/05/2021 00:09:02 |
What is the inside diameter of the spindle? A 1590 would usually be 20mm, a 17 series 8 or 10mm. |
30/05/2021 00:06:24 |
My close up photo of a 1590 bearing (from early in this thread) shows it having a thread at both ends, with a steel adjusting nut on each thread. These nuts are adjusted to move the bearing in/out of the headstock taper which tightens/loosens the bearing/spindle clearance. You seem to be missing the outside front nut?

Definitely timber in the slots. The slots in the bearings themselves would allow some movement. Not sure the purpose of the wood infill (maybe to quieten any possible resonance from the slotted bearing?) |

William, The "vertical" mill is in fact a horizontal mill with the knee to convert it. The spindle assembly will go on the horizontal slide once you remove the knee. Do you have any collets for it? (they can be the hard bit to accumulate). P8, P9 or other collet type? |
