Thread: John Bull metric dial indicator |

I have two John Bull indicators, both acquired recently, and both imperial. One is without its tip. A 6BA screw goes into both perfectly. Hugh. |
Thread: ML7 Main Bearing Oilers |
22/10/2016 13:40:57 |
Recently, I replaced the rear (gear) end oiler on my ml7, as it had a cracked plastic bowl, and leaked everywhere. I found a flip top Adams oiler on eBay.au and bought it. Adams are still around, and made (I believe) the original oilers for Myford. They may be in Coventry. Expensive new, but still there, and it works as it should. 1/8 BSP. Hugh. Thread: Myford ml3 |

Look under 'sellers other items' in the eBay link John Gibbs posted. There are many other ml1-4 parts available, including a complete top slide. Cheers, Hugh. |
Thread: Coventry Dies - New South Wales? |
06/07/2016 10:12:31 |
Hi Andrew, The NSWTD was a departmental successor to the NSWGR (Government Railways). Off the top of my head, it would date back to the 60's. It was succeeded by another set of initials in the early 70's, and then by several other sets of initials. Chullora workshops were, and remain, a major locomotive and rolling stock repair workshop, servicing steam and diesel, as well as wagons. It would appear that you have a collectable from us! Hugh. |

Nice addition to the Flexi Omnibus, Rod. Many thanks, Hugh. |
Thread: Flexispeed Lathe Motor and Power Supply |
07/04/2015 13:43:20 |
Hi James, I have a Flexispeed Meteor 11, the motor that accompanies it is a Parvalux 1/4 hp, 1440 rpm. I'm fairly sure that it is original, as it is painted the same Hammerite blue as the lathe. The only oddity is the countershaft, a Picador product, left as cast aluminium. These are all British products, and not add-ons in Australia. Cheers, Hugh.

Thread: Mystery Drive Belt |
19/08/2014 02:07:49 |
Rod, back to the Flexi! I replace the m section belt from the countershaft to the lathe pulleys with an 8mm roundthane belt, which removed the vibration caused by the set in the original. I have also used it on my Ultra mill (think BCA), and I have had no problems with it. Hugh. |
Thread: Arc Euro Trade ML7 cross slide leadscrew modification |
08/10/2013 21:11:18 |
Having done it a few years ago, I can only agree with Brian. Well worthwhile, a great upgrade. Hugh. |

Hi Lloyd,
A good reference for lathe nomenclature can be found here

Thread: Macs -V- Windows PC's |
13/11/2012 06:47:24 |
Hi John, I am a Mac user with limited Microsoft experience. I do not have anti virus, spy or mal ware software installed, and never have. I have never had any viruses, but I can't say if I've been spied on. Security updates can be set to download automatically, but they don't seem to even begin to rival the frequency of windows based ones. Recently, there was a scare regarding the Mac security system, and it would appear that perhaps Apple were caught unprepared, although I believe that this has now been attended to. I know of no-one that was affected. MS Office is available in a Mac version. There are CAD programmes available for Macs, but they don't seem to be in the usual brands. I don't know if cnc can be undertaken with Macs (I'm sure it can, but am unaware of off the shelf software). I've liked all the Macs I've had (4), and see no reason to ever change. I've always found using windows to be somewhat counterintuitive, but if you changed to Mac you may find the same for a while. Worth getting one? I'd say so, but then again, I would! Hugh.
