Thread: Pocketmags withdraw Windows 7 and 8.0 Support

Jason it goes to show even more how unprofessional it has become it deepens my total disgust for what others & I i have out laid good money for and from the exchange which they couldn't careless about as long as they have the $$$.

I hope others considering taking out or renewing their subscriptions are reading all these posts and making the choice not to continue. Not just with these magazines all Pocketmags and My Time Media surely ME & MEW are not the only ones effected.???

Makes me wonder how greedy people can get and if the share holders have any idea what is going on how some DH is trying to kill off their shares and the business??

I'm on downloading and setting up the iTunes for PC I use that on my tablet for each stupid eh one for each just more HDD space and memory taken up.

What annoys me even more is lack of security as the sign in and passwords must match all over or it doesn't co-exist talk about security night mare and hackers open front door to everything

Thanks to an email from Pocketmags this morning which has done nothing but infuriate me even more

"

Hi Ray,

You need to download the magazines again to the new app, as the old app can no longer be supported due to changes in Microsoft and Google's software. You can still access your issues, but not via the old app.

Please try this and let us know how you get on.

All the best,

Will"

So in essence this heading for this thread should read " All Windows ver"

Still no notification yet from Pocketmags officially to announce and give direction of what to do. No i am not that silly they have neglected even on their website until recent changes as pointed out during this thread a Public Announcement.
That lack of professionalism has me considering seriously to demand a full refund or ever taking out a subscription again.

On top of that as Neil will see in his email in box further in the staff of ME/MEW reply.

I fixed the editorial chair! Folk may remember the Ed' s bench about the peculiar assembly instructions.

The tube which hold the back up sheared off where it was welded to an attachment plate, I linished off the plastic coating and welded a long bit of 3/16" black bar inside the tube and to the plate as a brace before re-welding all around the split.

A nice bit of 'farm maintenance' style welding.

Now if I was editor of The Woodworker I would have had to spend two months making a reproduction Chippendale

Neil

Hum this isn't a good sign accounts dept making such cut backs not even editor can afford a new office chair editor has to do running repairs. best way to fix that sort of attitude is stick your repair account in accountants inbox of course 3 times price of new chair. teeth 2

You could always get a decent woodworker to make you one some of us are good with metal n wood others less fortunate just one or the other. wink 2

Neil I guess you are only assuming re-start date? No worries.

YEH Kate is back sorry Neil a great person like Kate in the background is worth double what they are paid. Hope Kate reads that.

Have already had an email from Kate, what a mess to come back to it could make her see dirty nappies are an enticement not to come to work and much easier to deal with lets hope not!!!!

I pity the MD who I hope Kate is wearing pointy toe heals studded at that so when she kicks ass it hurts and a spike then for pocketmags so it remains in the brain for a long time after.

Neil nothing wrong with 95 to think what we did back then and HDD, memory we dealt with!!!!
I still have Win3 software a 51/4 disc drive and 31/2 disc drive all I need is a machine to install it on. Even old Wordperfect 5, Lotus 123.

Bring back Netscape I say!!!

I still have a laptop with Win97 on also haven't fired it up for years.

Don't laugh as a small time techie I had to rescue a solicitor who's client DB software was Win3.1 Wordperfect 4 Electronic Typewriter based I rescued that in 2003. The software upgrade to access old files was $12kAU on top f the main package $25k.

Neil you thread for Apple users is indicating this problem is bigger then this thread alone. and is about the date when my problems started. **LINK**

This is a completely separate issue to the Pocketmags readers as it applies to the digital archive accessed via this site.

Jason not entirely as its been part of the problems I have been having. If you read my post above you'll see I did start a thread when it happened, contacted Neil who responded and the help which I have had 3 automated response from yet to have a human response in regard to any of the issues I've been having. That being one of them.

05/06/2017 23:17:58

I have just been in to "Setting's" via the forum to discover that my subscription Number for MEW had been changed NOT BY ME !!!
I reinstalled the correct number and again have access to the archival for MEW.

I then went on to My Time Media link to check my account etc shocked to findmagazine mew me subscription issue 2.jpg

I ahve been in communication with MTM colleagues already this morning.

Please be assured they are looking into this.

One problem is that, as usual, it is not clear exactly what problems people are having.

Several people are saying they can't access already downloaded issues, but I am noit sure what triggered the problem? is it because people have updated their reader and lost access, or because they are migrating from oner machine to another? Or something else?

Neil

Neil in my pm to you, email to them and to ME/MEW's help I have outlined that a WIN10 update was done just days prior but weeks prior an update to the reader was done also. I had accessed and read two ME mags in that period and one MEW. I then tried to go back and re-read one of the articles in an ME mag that is when the read started but died during its boot up.

I'd hate to be in your shoes Neil because right now I'd be worried for my job because of another companies actions.

05/06/2017 14:22:10

So they have updated their website to cover their own butts sounds like a CEO who is ducking for cover maybe its not just ME/ MEW which is taking full aim with the fully loaded artillery at them.

So why is Win10 also not allowing the old pocketmags viewer to access my stored mags?? It keeps crashing during start up???

In now reading some of the above comments briefly ME & MEW and associated magazines might need to pull the pin. Take control and meet demands of THEIR subscribers and produce the PDF's all are demanding. After all without subscribers how long would it last.?

The cost to such as Australian subscribers me in particular is not worth this sort of hassle I am close to demanding my money back plus all the exchange rate charges and fee's incurred. I doubt I'll get it!!!!

05/06/2017 01:07:57

Neil I am at the moment as you know in the middle of not just this issue but also my subscription stuff up due to changes that were made during due to their software net problems. After taking out my subscription which culminated in loss of Digital MEW and postal of ME all arse about. The trouble with the process has only come to light a month after payment. I am still waiting for someone to contact me on that matter an email sent during last week.

Obviously I do feel like an idiot when people start to make excuses for others who are trying to smooth over and make changes without notification or consideration for the subscribers.; I as though some new CEO has walked in the door and said get rid of do this do that i don't like it. They being 1/3 our age and so switched on to well you get the picture.
They and others seem to forget that many of these magazines subscribers are of an age where changes make life harder not easier.

I like many feel a PDF which can be password protected if need be would be far simpler it has stood the test of time. It is easy to view. It means then it can be stored on a portable disc unlike what is being used now which will over time as has already been shown to happen the company can not maintain the workable version.

Neil appreciate that you guys have taken a beating about this my personal frustration mounts as said from not just this matter but the other thread I started only to be pointed to a similar thread and now this one.
In your position though flack has to be expected when it becomes so damn obvious and its not the first time this issue has raised its head. Were you or any staff contacted/notified such a dramatic change was in the wind?? Doubt it otherwise you would have posted on here??
It makes me wonder who is running the ME & MEW team?

I did get a reply from a Pocketmags (John) who I have replied to scathingly due to his slack response and oversight of their contractual and legal matter of "Life time Off Line Viewing" using the original viewer software.

Maybe its time to share the load more ??

04/06/2017 14:06:23

Jason & Neil thanks but I don't think you understand this at all as subscribers Pockmags has a legal obligation to have informer its subscribers of the changes which it has not done.
That in using the new app it breaches their original statement and obligation that as subscribers we can at all times through the original software retrieve off our HDD and read off line any time. We can no longer do this.

The new app does not access any f those years of downloaded magazines you must re-download each and everyone one of them. I have opened up the new app and discovered there is only the last issue downloaded to my hard drive. Yes the others are there BUT they are on line reading till I download them.

Now this means I/we will have HDD space which has the same downloads and the additional download of data to do for ALL the old magazines each and everyone of them. Regardless of my/our download limit.

I therefore feel for al those fellows who for more years than I have subscribed and for the magazines themselves this will turn people off every subscribing again.

So please sop treating us like idiots this is a breach of contract we have all signed to.

04/06/2017 09:15:49

Neil I have just sent them an email.

In todays world 24/7 support is parramount being they sell magazines around the world someone should be there their Facebook Page etc etc.

Maybe its time we went back to banking between the hours of 10am and 3pm!!!

04/06/2017 09:00:48

I'm having enough hassles with my subscriptions on here without this crap.

04/06/2017 08:51:00

As quoted on This sites instructions and a statement again it is obvious by the comments here no one has been notified of any change by any one in authority as to any changes or directive to how to rectify.!!!!!!!

This is no laughing matter its just a few short weeks ago i downloaded an update for Pockectmags read in in win10.

Now at NO Time has Pocket mags notified me of any change to the contract entered into with them when taking out my subscription/s Using the new Win10app i can no longer as promised under contract by Pocket mags able to continue reading my past digital 4 years worth of magazines already down loaded due to the constant crash of the original win10 download ad now the win10app for MEW.

That is what we all were informed that we would be able to access ALL our digital magazines for life.
