Can’t understand your reasoning Noel, some Machine manufacturers use them from new,and they don’t get a set in them when not used for a while. My Fenner one has been on my S7 for close to 20 years!!

Through hole helicoil inserts are different to the blind hole version, they have a center coil that is kinked outwards to hold it in position. I have used them with great success. Have a word with the man at Tracy tools who specialises in inserts.

Thread: Myford spindle rectification or replacement
21/01/2021 09:39:03

Sorry but can’t see your problem, spindle thread is not for concentricity the the longitudal and cross registers look after that. Measuring a collet chuck runout that far from the spindle I am not surprised at those readings. As for the readings from the chuck how old did you say your lathe was?

Our leak compound has a keyed flange on the crank with two M8 socket headed grubscrews screwed through the flange directly over the key. Lateral movement is taken care of by the prop shaft thrust bearing mounted on a keel block.

I make and fit a lot of stainless fittings and never have trouble with galling because when assembled all parts are lubricated with either copaslip or hydraulic oil. How blingy they look is entirely up to you, as machined, scotchbrited or polished. Scotchbrited finish is good on vintage bikes as it looks close to nickel. Don’t forget that corrosion resistance is greater the more highly polished it is
