Michael, The readers are made from 5/32” dia silver steel/ hss depending on how you are equipped. The angles in DAG’s book are 6deg, 9deg and 13deg incl. with tip sizes typically 0.015”. I suppose micro grain carbide would be a fun thing to make them from!!! |

I made all the readers as per DAG Brown ,turned the taper hardened then ground in the t&c grinder and the tempered in domestic oven. They work a treat. |

Mount it in the slot which does not require a lot of knob twiddling between turning and parting, having said that 2 slots are better than one and with the long crosslide you still have two choices of position. |

I have tried contacting Millhill Supplies via their email request form ,no answer so far (6 days) . So phoned them and the person answering asked which company??? ,anyway promised to phone on mobile as I was out for the day, no call back but when I arrived home there was a missed call on my land line and no call today. If you think your repeats are approved by a doctor think again, mine were approved by a phlebotomist who I know personally (no special treatment) and she was rubber stamping a hundred or so a shift!!! |

My round eclipse chuck was stiff to operate when I bought it (secondhand) but had an oil filler hole , plug removed and nothing came out so in with some hyd oil and now is silky smooth. |

Dead simple use an internal grooving tool put on a cut of approx 10 to 12 thou and from the chuck end of the bush draw the tool thru the bush smartly as the lathe is turning, job done . Done it dozens of times, don’t make it complicated. |
