Any chance of using a skiving tool as they will take off tenths, which you can do quite successfully if you compound is set to 5.5deg or so which will give you a ten to one ratio of bed travel to infeed.

If you set your compound slide to approx 5.75 degs it will give you a tenth cut for every div.

The part that say open?close is adjustable for size of square on tap ,front chuck holds tap central.The way I use mine is to fit tap in outer chuck jaws as a sliding fit then slide tap to the rear and adjust rear jaws to clamp square on tap, tighten front jaws and you are good to go.
