I remember it well Stew, i bought a small air-con unit because it was getting over 30c in my shed. So you can all blame me for the lousy weather we have had since then.

Hi Stuart, If you look at "workshop tools and tooling" in the forum section, go to page 6 and click on "indexable fly cutter" you will find what i have found to be the best little fly cutting tool i have tried yet. I dont know how to put a link to the thread, perhaps someone who knows could oblige for the benifit of any new members.

Thread: Scroll saw advice
03/02/2013 22:24:51

John ( RJW ) I first had the basic idea for this clock in 1980 but had no time or means to do anything about it, i did however ask many "clock men" over the years if they could come up with a suitable mechanism to drive the thing. Non could ( or would ) and knowing nothing about such things myself i eventualy went for the synchronous motor in the hope of making it before they put me 6' under crook

Michael M, I have seen many of the clocks you describe and i agree with your appraisal of them. What i was realy trying to say, in a very clumsy way was that i did'nt have to make any hands for my effort. The only other clock i know of that shows the time in a similar way is John Taylors Chronophage. On Mr. Taylors clock the previous lights go out as the next one comes on, but on my clock the lights remain on for the full cycle, if that makes any sense. The main difference however is mine is made allmost entirley of scrap, whilst Mr. Taylors cost over one million quid !!!!!face 3

Thanks to you both for your comments, and just out of interest i have just updated my photos.

Cheers Derek.

Michael, you are quite right about blades of ebay, i bought some from an ebay jewller last year they were made in India and total rubbish, i find German ones the best. I have been using a fretsaw for over 60 years now and i allways use it with the frame tucked under my arm which makes it much more stable. I am trying to imagine how all you clock fans are reacting to my fibre optic clock which will ( when finished ) have NO HANDS ! with disstain no doubt.dont know

Cheers Derek.

P.S. pics of said clock in "my photos" dont know how to put a link on.

I have a scroll saw and would never dream of using it on metal, as Michael says they are far too fast even on the slowest speed. For as long as i can remember i have used a fretsaw rather than a piercing saw for cutting metal, i find i have much more control over the fretsaw than the others. The most important thing is to use the right blade for the job and put plenty of tension on the blade.

Thread: Clarke cmd10 milling machine
31/01/2013 22:30:07

Should do. I fitted one to my Axminster version of the same machine many years ago, and it made a vast improvement on the stubby thing the machine came with. Ring Ketan at Arc, he will know for sure and is a realy nice bloke to deal with.
