I am about to start to machine the cylinder of the Powerhouse engine. 2/12 cast iron with 8 fins and 1 inch bore. Do I start 4 jaw chuck , tailstock, machine all the exterior and fins? then fixed steady and bore ,or do it in the reverse order.? Please do not get to technical I am in late 80s and things get done slowly, I feel that the chances of tragedy are going to be machining the fins so any advice gratefully received. |

I have been lurking on this site for some time understanding the engineering details and totally bemused by star windings 3d printing etc. To get to the point I have made an RLE engine and Stuart beam and 5a but I am now at the age when I might be called away unexpectedly, I am considerably older that the gentleman who said that he was quitting at 80. I would like to make another engine from bar stock, reason being if I do not finish it the heirs and assassins will only have some chunks of metal to dispose of. I fancy building Howells Farm Boy or Bill , Does any one have any experience of these? The Nemett engine does not seem to run slowly enough for me. Any other suggestions or help would be appreciated. |
