Hi Martin, Could you please tell me what the reaction is between what is in the potato and iron rust .I know that it removes rust but do not know why .I spoke to an old lady yesterday and she told me that just rubbing a potato peel on rust , the rust goes . This seems to be an old trick . PS I am 87 and not heard of it . thanks Maurice. |

Hi all, This may sound crazy but it works, Had two iron rail track nails from U.S.A. .told to put them in water and add chopped up potato ,leave to soak .Left them for 4 weeks . (forgot them) they were covered in black powder ,washed off off with an old tooth brush . could not believe that they were rust free and shiny. Do not know how it works but it does .I think it may be malic acid . Care with cleaning the black powder is very clinging and a job to get off hands. Best wishes Maurice. |

Hi all ,there is a simple answer to listening to music and multiple questions about nearly everything . I have been given the AMAZON ECHO devise .A 3 1/2" D x 1 1/2" H thing which plugs into mains , you just ask "echo play " what you want and the music plays. please dont ask how it just does . Love mine to bits. 20 ft from house in workshop ,comes through the internet somehow. |
Thread: The non-cutting end of a thread tap |
17/01/2017 09:58:53 |
Hi ,I think they are pointed so that there is less chance of jamming on the end of a blind hole. The flat end ,if screwed down hard, would have more chance of jamming tight and breaking .Told to me by a very old engineer, and it seems to work. |

Thread: Cataracts [ocular, not Hardinge] |
29/11/2016 17:33:32 |
Hi Michael, Just had both my eyes done , cataracts removed and new lenses inserted .My sight is now better than I can remember I can see pylons and wires a mile and a half away .I can type this (just about) without glasses ,but with a cheap pair of x3 glasses no problems. I am going next week to have a checkup to get a proper pair if necessary. I did not feel or see the operation ,all numbed with drops .Arrived at hospital at half seven and home at half four the same day. Each op was done one month apart, small amount of dis comfort when antibiotic drops put in each day for one month.. I do not wear glasses now at all for driving .driving at night is wonderful ,the clearness of everything is amazing. My wife also had both of her eyes done by the same surgeon, brilliant man, laughed and joked all the time. There is nothing to fear ,everything is carefully explained . I was totally scared at having this done to me, but now EASY. All the very best Maurice.

Hi Bob, How about four springs mounted between two discs, one fixed to the turret and the other to the figure. You would have to work out sizes and strength of springs. The springs would work against each other to control wobble I think. (springs mounted across diameter of discs) . Best of luck Maurice. |

Hi OuBallie Please take notice of the first line of instructions If you have fine dust or inflammable gases ,I do not know how much of either of these will cause problems ,but take care .I worked in a lab,one of the staff put a dead rat (killed with ether) in a fridge , Next morning opened the door and there was a very loud bang ,the fridge door landed up on the other side of the room . He was very lucky it missed him . Best wishes Maurice. |
