I agree with Andrew's comments and will add that a CNC mill needs a computer and some sort of program to tell it what to do, I use Mach3. You can use Mach3 like a manual machine via the axis direction buttons on the key board or screen, adjusting the speeds and feeds accordingly. Just keep your finger on the button. The added bonus is the digital readout for all the axis. No need for G code.

And like you say who needs castings when you have a cnc?

Hi Sarah I just realised that I gave you the Z axis motor info not the spindle motor info duh!

So here is my spindle motor info for my KX1

Steps per = 1

Velocity = 120

Acceleration = 4

G's = 0.0004079

Steps pulse = 0

Dir pulse = 0

Same caveats apply, they work okay on my machine and I am useless on computer stuff!

The pulse settings changed them selves from 4us to 3us after I increased the velocity, which then put the speed back down. Jus coildnt get them to change back to 4us.

Hi Sarah here is a photo of my KX1 Z motor drive settings. (Edited to include the photo above which I forgot to post! )

Steps per = 500

Velocity = 1000.2

Acceleration = 100

G's = 0.0101976

Step pulse = 0

Dir pulse = 0

A little bit different from your settings. No idea if they are the 'correct' settings but they seem to work okay. It's a USB KX1 by the way if that makes any difference?

Oh and I got 25 out of 50 in last night's virtual pub quiz 😁

Hi Sarah I adjusted the top speed of my KX1 from 5000rpm to 7000rpm! It was an easy process in the settings and I don't remember altering the pulse settings, but it was a long time ago and I've had a sleep since then!

I rely on mach 3 to tell me what revs the machine is doing. Might be time to check my machine too!

Are they sending out orders recieved before they shut down?

PERI are a German construction company specialising in Formwork and scaffolding. The photo shows their formwork system on the Mersey Gateway central pier under construction four years ago.

And I would think ithe shuttering would make a very good worktop too!

These straws are available with a silicone mouth piece if people want to be safety conscious!

Come to think about it I can't remember the last time I actually needed a drinking straw!

While doing a bit of research as to what grade of stainless these are made of, I come across the report of a woman in England who died after falling onto a similar straw after tripping while carrying her drink! It impaled her eye socket and entered her brain! Less serious they can also chip your teeth. I think I'll stick to paper straws in future!

It's 304 or 316 food grade stainless by the way.

Some food for thought here thanks, hopefully I'll find a use for them before they get consigned to the useful bits bin!

My latest impulsive shopping purchase was these stainless steel reusable drinking straws. They are 6mm diameter, not sure of the bore or wall thickness because the ends are rounded over but they are very thin wall and look seamless. Comes with a neat little cleaning brush too!

Not sure why I bought them, they just look handy, so for £3,99 for 10 I thought why not! Wierdly they had packets of four for the same price.

So, apart from drinking, can anyone think of a use for these?

It doesn't need an electrostatic generator. It simply has an earth lead from the gun which clips to the part you are coating. Really easy and simple low cost method which works very well.

Hi John have a look at electrostatic magic made in the UK. I have got the start up set and it works very well, although I have only used it on motorbike foot pegs and small things, the results are great!

Bought it a few years ago at Stafford classic bike show for around £150 ish

Just had a look at Amadeal's website and noticed they are selling the new Syil X5+ 4 axis CNC milling machine for £11.000+.

One thing sets my alarm bells ringing is that the machine is fitted with Mach3 operating system, which as far as I know is no longer supported or updated by Newfangled Solutions. I would expect a new hobby CNC to come equipped with Mach4.

Makes me wonder what sort of back up and after sales service this company can offer for a machine like this, let alone a Mini lathe?

I used to carry out face fit tests for clients, the substance is called 'Bitrex' and despite using disposable gloves when filling and using the vapourisers it got everywhere, and it does taste awful! On the plus side it did highlight how many times I touched my face, such as wiping my mouth then licking my lips ugh!! Easy to appreciate how germs spread after using that stuff.

The paper or fibre face masks are not entirely useless because they can contain a cough thereby reducing the spread of infection, and you can scratch your nose with a mask on.

I can confirm this also! I bought a similar Aldi stick welder and just couldn't get any weld penetration at all. I will try again and if no improvement it will be binned.

I should have spent double the money and bought a decent welder from Machine Mart or somewhere. Buy cheap buy twice!!!
