I caught up with the series last night, so I started another side project. I see a new mag is up today, so I will be into the drains I guess. I have an EMMA thread under "projects under construction". |

Made the slide valves and fitted them. The pistons and seals are also fitted. |

I am sure that rivets will do nicely. I am just a TIGaholic! I dislike all the drilling and rivetting setup! Must be a throwback to my boilermaking days!! I just machined the wheels as per the dtails, and cut the c/weights from 1/8" MS and 1/16MS and welded them in. Where are you in Canada? |

I did make 2 pistons last night. I was only able to fit the rod to 1, and fit it to the cylinder. lots of lapping etc. More than I imagined. |

I am almost up to it. I have to make the slide valves and pistons yet. I will try the pistons tonight. The slide valves will take a night or two. I only have a "FIRST" Mill drill that is 100% digit operated. My digits get a bit weary at times! The only electronic digital equip. in my shop are the calipers. My lathe is a 30 y.o Hercus 9" swing x 40" centers. |

Another question to those in the know. The valve shaft is detailed with a .010" flat x 5/8" long on 1 end, with a thread on the opposite end. Why is there a flat on that end? Should the flat be where the "nut" is fitted? There appears to be a few missing dims. on the "nut" also. |

That is great Jason, it is starting to make some sense now. |

Last night I made up all the rod guides and fitted them. I thought that I may paint it green, so I tried out a bit. I don't like it much, it is too light, needs a darker shade I think. Edited By HobbyNut on 26/03/2013 15:28:33 |

"A video is worth a thousand ME drawings It would still be nice to know the dimensions! Where did you get the dimensions from?

I cannot seem to locate a drawing in the series so far, that tells me a few critical dimemensions of the crankcase. The height of the crankshaft from the base for instance. I remember pulling quite a few of these engines apart back in the 50's, at my fathers Engine Reconditioning shop in Australia. I thought it would be a great next project, after I finish my present 2 or 3!! and as long as health permits. Edited By HobbyNut on 19/03/2013 20:44:55 |

Thank You. I made the OD of the barrel too small. the wall would have been less than 1/16" at 1.25 bore. |

I am going to machine the guides onto the valve chest. I messed up with the cylider barrels, and I now have 1 3/16" bore and not 1 1/4". i doubt it will make much difference to me. |

Here are the pieces all ready to D&T etc. I am lazy, so I WJ cut the holes in the valve block and cover. |

I did what Henry said, and it works well. I am now into making the cylinders, just WJ cut the parts today from 3/8" x 3" Brass flatbar. I will take a pic of the parts and post it later. |

Still working along at the pace of about 12 hrs per week. Wondering when next installment is? I made my brake shoes from MS, waterjet cut naturally. I also cut some from .375" Q5 Brake material, that I may try at a later date. Should I be thinking of painting this frame soon? |

Ah yes.I also thought of making a stepped washer. You are a little ahead of me.I've also made my wheels out of solid,I'm about to make the counterbalance weights for them and rivet then on. Is that weld I see on yours? Yes, I TIG welded the c/wts and crank doublers on. After painting they will look cast.
