I am impressed. Makes my fabricated effort look "amateurish".Do you intend on selling these pieces? I would be interested in a piston casting.

I have been spending too much of my time building the Lister, but I am still making parts for emma, just not fitting them yet

Re the drawing issues.

I am "lucky" to be one who spends a lot of his days on AutoCad. I can draw and redraw to my hearts content. This is how I am progressing. I take what is printed and then draw it to see where and how it fits. I didn't for the head, as it "looked like it would work"!!

05/07/2013 17:19:02

I have started making the head. I cut it from a piece of 4140 HTSR material I had. I cut it to the 50 x 55 dims. I have drilled it for valve guide assemblies, and the head studs. I machined the recess unfortunately before I drilled the head stud holes, so I have a little welding to do. I will take pics in the next day or so, as sprintcar racing is taking a lot of time right now.

I am thinking of making the valves as units, and pressing/locktiteing them in. The seats and guides could all be machined in the lathe, then assembled and tested before fitting to the head. I have some titanium 1/4" dia bolts that I am going to use as the valve material. should be interesting.

Jeff, the drawings are definitely confusing.

I am redrawing and fitting as I go now, as it seems to be the only way. I find it very difficult to figure out how the 2 pumps go together, as there is not an assembled cross section, or exploded assembly drawing of either.

I am concentrating on getting the basic, crank, cam, piston to all work together then hopefully the head details will turn up in the mag.

There is no detail of how the oil gets to the main bearings, or am I missing it.

Still building away here..Have not found any more missing, or non determinable dimensions.

I am still working away. I used the 65000psi drill and file to make the motion pieces from the last installment.

Just an update on my progress on this. I have now got the crank and main bearings trial fitted.bearing housing.jpgcrankshaft.jpgcrank installed.jpg

The drain cocks are now assembled and mounted on the cylinders. I made the connecting link and all the other little bits last night. No pics yet. I will take them tonight.

How did you manage that in less than 25 hours, even with 'machine assistance'!

Neil

Neil, I cut the parts at work, took about 45 mins, went home had supper, went to garage about 6.30pm, took Dremel and cutoff wheel to old assembly, cut all tacks, cleaned up parts, tacked new parts together, welded them, took hot assembly to milling machine, removed vise, clamped down fabrication, took cleanup off base, flipped the case and cleaned up .75mm off top, flipped it sideways and propped it up to face off cover flange, took it back to welding shop and ground it down a bit, took the Dynabraid and did more cleanup, put a carbide bullnose x 1/8 dia. bit in the Dremel and dressed the welds a bit, drilled and tapped the holes for the cover, fitted the cover. Shut down the workshop(shed) and went into house had a shower and head hit the pillow at 11.00pm.

So I have figured out the drawings, with JasonB and Georges help. The case I started on was incorrect, so I redid it with new sides and cover end.new case all ground.jpg

"Hi Hobbynut,

I'd struggle to cut cake that thick! Preumable you have direct access to the water jet cutter, I hate to think what it would cost to pay for getting that done!

Neil"

Neil, It took 40 mins to cut that piece. Yes, I work at programming and cutting. We have 2 machines. We regularly cut 5" hardened plate for the oil industry. Cost of that piece about $100.00 to an outsider.

Here is is tacked together.lister case.jpg

More Water Cut parts. I now have everything to build the main crankcase.

Jason, the taper over the 2" in this case is .011" Our Dynamic head is malfunctioning at the moment, and the taper would have been less than .005"

Thanks Jason, my welding aint as good as it used to be, mainly because ,my sight aint either!

I just finished cutting the base, the cylinder mounting plate(top), the RH end, flange and cover.

I intend to cut the LH end from 2" MS plate, it takes 40 mins on the waterjet.

I sure would be interested in 1 of those cover plates.

George has been gracious enough to send me any info I want. I cut and welded this yesterday, to see what a fabricated crankcase would be like.

The ribs between the RH bosses are for fabricating and cutting ease. All holes are undersize. I will cut the base, top and ends today. maybe get it assembled tonight.
