I think you will need a bit more than that Hobby. The full size engine works at 90 bars (1305psi) I think I will too.....But more testing, fitting, modifying etc will get it working!! I hope. Pat. |

Tested the pump tonight....it puts out 344Kpa, 50psi, 3.44Bar. Is it enough? only time will tell.. |

The "DUX" injector is a simple thing. it has no moving parts, and is basically a valve in a body. The valve face is lapped into the seat, and then a "scratch" is made across the valve surface to create a "leak". This scratch becomes the orifice. Because of its minute size, it apparently does not affect the compression any appreciable amount. I have made this from Silver steel, threaded it into the head, and the valve is Silver steel with a .188" dia head, a 2mm dia stem and 2mm-.4 thread at the top. The nut is 3/16 hex. The theory of operation is that the fuel makes its way down the stem and out the scratch at each pump stroke. The valve body is drilled 2.1mm dia. and I filed 2 small slots into the u/s of the nut. Pics soon. |

Well, I am in the process of building a new head from steel, and a new injector, ala DUX. It does not have a moveable plunger. The pump needs a seal, and I will build a new piston for it also. I will then hook everything up, before fitting the head to check if/what the spray pattern looks like. |

Bill, i did silver solder the cylinders after boring. I then honed them to size. I used a brake cyl hone for a few runs, then I machined up an Al. plug and lapped them. The Lister is keeping me busy, but I have been making all the arms etc for the motion on the waterjet. I will get back to it in the next few weeks, as my car racing season will be over in a fortnight, thus freeing up an extra couple of nights and a day. Edited By HobbyNut on 09/09/2013 07:13:58 |

Last night at 10.30pm PST. I took this pic. I made the valve cover nut, and machined the steel head to the semi-finished stage. |

Bill, I am possesed as my wife would say. She claims I have ADHD... I start a project and can't put it down. I spend, on average about 3 hrs per night, about 3or 4 days a week in the garage. I also have a few full size race cars that I work on for a friend, so that can take a night or two, and then there are visits to and from the 3 daughters and 11 grandkids. I do work 5 days a week, and my commute is 1.5 hrs each way. I live a long way out from where I work!!. I had all last week off so I was able to spend lots of time in the garage. I love building mechanical things, especially model stuff. |

Are we going to see any more Emma construction drawings? None in the last 3 issues that I have seen. |

The fuel pump was rebuit and the bleed moved and made to work. I have now put it all back together with all the pipework completed. The lubrication delivery pipes work, as does the bleeder from the pump. Now all that needs to be done is stop the injector from leaking and getting it to work consistently. |

That piston is in the engine. It seems like it is working OK, there is lots of compression now. Still wont run |

Neil, I am an Aussie.... Gordon, I have the Lister all apart at the moment, and I intend to fit that piston, just to see what happens. |

That works....kind of. There appears to be too much bypass tho'. Quite a bit of fuel comes out the drain hole. The bleeder valve on my pump is not working, I'm not sure why yet, I am going to do some invetigating tonight. I also think that I do not have enough compression. My head gasket is about .75mm thick. I am going to replace it with a much thinner alum. one, The rings may also be replaced, as there appears to be some fuel making its way into the sump....blowbye I would say. Anyway, thanks for following, I am still perservering on the Lister. |

You must be a biker! - Piston broke! Neil
Thats true....I am all of that!!! |

I am sure that the piston would work still being shorter and all. it is still long enough that it wont turn over in the bore, the only thing missing is the oil ring. I am going to try it "one of these days". I have seen plenty of Ford and Chevy V8 racing pistons that are very short for the bore size. |

thanks for the interest and info so far Gents, not sure what to do with it as i have a few projects on at the moment.
There will be lots of people interested in purchasing that from you. Maybe me even! I have made about 8 of them with various glow and spark engines. |

Unfortunately this did not end well. When I heated the skirt with my pencil torch to break it free, the piston and skirt parted ways at the lower ring groove. On inspection, I had gone 1 mm too deep on the id from the base of the piston, making that area too thin. The casting was not at fault, I was, and the piston was a joy to machine, with only a few very small pinhole air pockets in the casting. Oh well, I tried. |
31/08/2013 00:38:59 |
The ring grooves were then machined, and the OD polished with some 240 W&D. |
31/08/2013 00:37:23 |
The piston was then locktited onto the mandrel Then a cut was taken, and machined down to 28mm dia. |
