Thread: Countryman's Steam.

Building this portable steam engine looks like an interesting project, can the the Editor tell us how many issues of ME will be required to cover the whole series?

Tried the Jacobs website?

Also I have seen multi fit 4 way keys available from various suppliers and DIY outlets.

Thread: Stuart No 4 Steam Passages

Jason.
Thanks the link certainly made it clear, I will get some it sounds useful stuff.

Originally I had done a search and been guided to their uk site, which did not seem to mention a standard product.
16/01/2011 19:59:13
I have looked at the JB Weld website but am not clear as to which product  is being referred to as standard here.

Can somebody tell me?

Thank you.
Thread: steam turbine and generator
13/01/2011 09:56:31
Not sure if there might be some advice available from the Gas Turbine builders association.
They have experience of the speeds involved, but never tried anything in this line myself.
I do not know if there any is relevance, but have included a link to their website.

Thunderbirds are go!

Sorry I just couldn't resist that one, it reminds me so much of Thunderbird 2.

Thread: Chuck jaws
04/01/2011 20:45:28

Issue 166 of MEW had a couple of articles on making / using soft jaws.

Sorry this is short on detail, but I cannot get to my previous issues at present.

Have you asked the library service at your local one?
Thread: Steam boats on the Thames in the 1860's
03/01/2011 18:03:15

From memory of a visit I think this place has a paddle steamer engine tucked away out of sight, not at all sure of its vintage though.

An internet search for Paddle Steamer Preservation Societies might be worth while.

Thread: Late delivery of magazines due to adverse weather

I buy ME and MEW from the local branch of WHS, they always seem to be available on the date advertised in the magazines, irrespective of weather.

Thread: Rulers - my pet peeve
28/12/2010 20:51:39
I think John Shepherd 1 must have had the same teacher as mine, still I've never forgotten that it's a rule, so the rule across the knuckles worked.

I find that getting rid of stuff usually involves discovering that you need it a couple of days later.
Thread: Which slideway oil is best?
27/12/2010 20:42:59
My ML7 gets the Myford recommended lubricants, as far as I'm concerned our machines cost good money and we spend plenty on, materials, tools etc.
So why cost cut on lubricants or mess about with different grades?

Yes Happy Christmas and New Year to one and all.

May we all have lots of this:-

Thread: Humidistat? for Andrews De-humidifier
24/12/2010 18:05:42
Possibly Richard is describing a Masons Screen Hygrometer.

I use a small domestic de-humidifier with built in stat control, which works fine for my shed type workshop (about 3 x 2.4).

De-humidifiers do need to be roughly sized to the application, hence my comments about the Andrews machine and workshop size.
23/12/2010 16:24:13
Crikey as the saying goes thats a bigun!
Have you got a very sizeable workshop? because this is suitable for drying out large areas.
If your workshop is not large then this unit might be less than suitable for the job, it might cut in and out too frequently and be uneconomical as well.

These are sold by Andrews-Sykes so they might be able to supply humidistats, and advice on suitability for your application.

One place I used to work at they attached wall mount humidistats to basic (domestic size) de-humidifiers, that idea worked quite well.

RS list a wall mount humidistat.
(sorry, couldn't manage a link to the actual page so search for humidistat).

You would have to check that it could switch the load of this unit, plus of course all the usual safety aspects of doing something like this.

How about the Avro Vulcan? What an amazing sight that is.

There is a UK one kept flying and maintained by The Vulcan To The Sky Trust, they rely on private donations to keep her airworthy.
Watch out for this at some air displays next year.

There is a website at.
