Regarding the PP3 charger there are plenty on ebay for not a lot of money from British based sellers, the one you’ve chosen is from China.I would buy from British seller.

Thread: Any Idea What Lathe This Is?

I would get it going as it is ,to make sure expensive bits are ok.Then I would clean ,paint and rebuild. No need to worry about electrics till it’s rebuilt.

I would take cover off boiler to see if I could see leak ,might only be a joint needs tightening.

You could put a bottle of Fernox leak sealer in the system ,usually stops most leaks.

The thig I miss most is Dripping sandwiches, laced with salt. God how am I still alive.

Steve.

Hard graft, fluids and sweat. We needed the energy and excreted the rest.
Remember when they used to recommend salt tabs for the tropics?

pgk

When I worked at Mullard in the 60's they issued salt tabs to the foundry workers.

Had dripping sandwiches last week ,without the salt though. We used to be given salt tablets at the colliery .

Thread: New design of mains plug?

Thank you for replies on wiring colours. Now I’ve been reminded I do remember something about colour blindness all those years ago.

31/03/2020 16:16:52

Can anybody remember why we changed from red and black wires to brown and blue for live and neutral ? I think this was approx 50 years ago for flex but only 15 years ago for twin and earth.

Thread: DC-DC converter
29/03/2020 21:06:46

Could you try an AA battery with switch ,see if it works if it don't ,use regulator etc. This seems easiest and cheapest.

Hi please ignore my previous post regarding multipole connectors ,I have made a mistake only the 2 and 3 pole connectors are 240Volt rated . Do not use this range I have suggested.

Sorry

Maurice

I enjoy reading all the posts on VFD,s and 3 phase motors etc. Do these produce better quality work than a single phase motor with gearbox or belt/pulleys as they seem a complicated way to rotate a chuck or cutter ?

Thread: renew driving licence
06/02/2020 19:18:34

With a B licence (car) you can drive pre 1960 lorries, buses, road locomotives.steam wagons etc,you can also drive forklifts and diggers on the road. So the weight can’t be a reason for dropping C1 licence, also gross train mass of Discoveries and Range Rovers are 5.5tonnes or more.

06/02/2020 18:15:58

Over 70 you only lose C1 and C1E you still get BE which allows you to drive vehicle upto 3.5 tonnes and pull any size trailer upto the maximum weight specified by the vehicle manufacturer. No need for medical
