Thread: Building a motorcycle - which thread was it in?
30/11/2017 16:28:55

Me sitting on it would have a very negative effect on it's beauty. It is a wonderful creation and way beyond anything I could even dream of making.

Was over on the Island for the Classic TT and while looking at a Triumph twin powered one-off stainless steel framed trials bike the builder appeared. During a chat it turned out that we had a mutual friend. He then showed me another of his creations build in the Metisse style and powered by a large capacity (720cc?) single.

Just wondered if you and he were the same person for which I need to see your bike again. I now know you are not but still wonder who the other lad is.

I am trying to find the thread in which a poster gave details of building a motorcycle – frame, alloy tanks, etc. It may have been in the ‘What Did You Do Today 2017’ or ‘The Workshop Progress Thread’ but despite a lot of looking I can not find the 'page'.. Anyone help, please?

Thread: Drill out a ht c/s allen screw
22/11/2017 14:46:59

What a wonderful group of ‘workmates’ I have on this forum, freely providing advice with no thought of reward. Thanks to all concerned. Have tried all the suggested bench work methods without success – except for braking two new drills despite using slow, steady speed with coolant – so will buy some carbide drills. I am now wondering if the screws are indeed h/t.

The engine is from a Bantam racer and had been put together with a lot of care and attention, eg plain bush replaced with needle rollers, homemade short stroke crank, shortened barrel, etc. The screws are securing the c/case packing and need to be removed as I intend using an ordinary crank. The conrod is Yam RD400 which indicates it may have been built in the South West area. Could the engine builder have worked in the aerospace industry with access to high spec fasteners. And adhesive?

Advice on drill for drilling out six 5/32" high tensile c/s allen screws in an alloy c/case.. Heating is not an option as the allen key holes have been distorted.

Many thanks folk, for telling of your experiences. Much appreciated. Will keep my pocket money for something else.

Any one experience of Lidl’s Parkside double grinder with flexible shaft? I appreciate a lot depends on the intended use. I am thinking of ease of use of the shaft, ie is it very rigid or does it remain flexible when the power (!) is turned up.

Just got MEW Issue 260 - October 2017. Enjoyed the 'bottle feeding a Tiger Cub' in Readers' Tips. Why did it take 60 years for some person to realise that babies, including a Baby Triumph, needed bottle feed! Thanks Chris for the hint.

Now what about a suitable nappy to hold the results of bottle feeding?

Chris

If you had not mentioned Administer, I would have been convinced I saw your wife with a friend strolling through my local (country town) department store.

One commented that 'Chris has so many tools he does not know what to do with some of them.' The friend replied 'Sure he makes some wonderful things.' 'He does that. Yes, that he does,' came the reply.

That man has a real supporter. Sadly it is not the wife!

2018 Ulster Grand Prix update as of today.

Major changes to the lace w:st="on">Ulsterlace> Grand Prix bike week in 2018 will include a restriction on the number of newcomers at the Dundrod meeting.>>

The Dundrod 150 will be replaced by four Ulster Grand Prix races which now will take place on the Thursday.>>

Experienced English riders Jamie Hodson and Gavin Lupton died after crashes at this year's Dundrod 150.>>

Clerk of the course Noel Johnston said that he would "look closely at each entry before accepting them".>>

"Particularly relevant for newcomers is that Dundrod is an incredibly fast and technical circuit which must be treated with respect, and that means doing a serious amount of homework before you ever head out on a closed road," added Mr Johnston.>>

"To that end, the overall number of newcomers will be restricted.>>

Just receive this from our (married) son 'Never criticise your husband's faults, it may have been those little imperfections which stopped him getting a better wife'.

I recall asking my mother some 65 years ago when her friend meant by 'I am too poor to buy a cheap item' - she was not well enough off to buy a replacement when the poor quality item failed.

Earlier in the year after one of our local (Northern Irish) races a team stopped off at a hotel for a bit to eat. On returning to their vehicle they found the trailer and bikes gone. The bikes turned up later but the trailer didn't.

Unknown to many there are sites to check if 'your' new trailer has been reported stolen eg
