Thread: Amadeal Lathe
29/08/2016 14:45:18

Jim

"Just checked and lathe was bought on 10th Feb and the electrics only have a 6 month guarantee!!!"

That is worth shouting at them anyway. Clearly electrics which only last 3 months are not "fit for purpose" !

I suggest that they should be prepared to help you - let us know the outcome so that we can all form our own opinions.

I had a lathe like yours to start with - it was a good introduction!

"Measure twice and cut once" - and there I was thinking that was an advertising ploy by the makers of rulers !

(Not really but I am afflicted with a lifelong tendency to seek out the ridiculous - it has got me into trouble at times but there doesn't appear to be a cure.)

Clive & Phil

I'm very sorry to hear of your bad experiences with A & E - I guess that's hard to forgive.

Just to redress the balance a bit my experience there is wholly positive. One Sunday morning, a while ago, my wife said she felt unwell (and looked it!) so I called 999 and an ambulance arrived which gave a blue lights and sirens trip to A&E. They re-started her heart (which saved her life) and diagnosed an "Electrical" defect in the heart muscle. She was referred to the Royal Brompton hospital ( who are apparently the experts in "matters of the heart" ) where they gave her a "permanent fix" - by cauterising part of the heart muscle ! She is now fine - good old NHS.

Oh no Chris !

That's not too far from The Tool Box at Colyton - I never call there but I find something that I desperately need .... and then Axminster Power Tools are not too far either... but.....that ice cream does sound very tempting........🤔

Could be an expensive ice cream

Call round here anytime Andrew - I' m always forgetting what I was going to say ... and had (yet another) demonstration today of forgetting what I was about to do! I am fitting a vanity unit in the ensuite room and obviously need tools. My plumbing kit is ( or rather should be!   kept in a caddy in the workshop. I took that in and discovered after a while that some widget or other was missing - back to the workshop and, when I was in there, had forgotten what I had gone out for - so back inside where I , of course, remembered. This charade continued on and off throughout the morning - I gave up after lunch and drove over to see my son. I will resume battle with the vanity unit tomorrow. ( If I fail I will apply to the BBC for a job citing your example as evidence of my qualifications!)

Norman

Sorry all for posting this here whereas it should be in "What did you do today " but, as I didn't, then that would be be wrong too !

Thread: Would a £50 Nilfisk pressure washer be any good ?
13/08/2016 11:49:47

I like red and have two red cars - they look great ....when they are clean - but we live out in the sticks! Luckily there is a local firm who will hand wash / aqua wax for £6. (They will also do a full valet where the car returns looking like new inside and out! - I have given my ageing SAAB a birthday on occasion). I have sometimes used the machine washes at garages and they are effective but seem a bit brutal to me. Yes I do have a pressure washer which I bought in a fit of enthusiasm / economy drive and, to be honest, the whole business of dragging it out, running lengths of hosepipe and extension leads is a PITA.

So I console myself with the thought that I am encouraging local enterprise, stump up and support my cleaners!

I find this little sander useful to just touch up a tool from time to time. With the QCTP it takes only a few seconds to do.sharpening.jpg

Interesting stuff Michael.

As far as the" questionable use of the term 'GPS' by people who really should know better." goes though they have shown it in quotes and I think that we can all understand what they mean. I doubt that this would be the case if they had quoted IPPS, (Inter Planetary Positioning System) or maybe Galactic Positioning System .................( GPS......oh maybe .....!!) surprise

PS Well done Martin you beat me to it - your post was not there when I first looked!

Hi John

It is as Michael says - I am "Apple Man" ( iMac, iPad and iPod !) - I was converted by all my kids constant chime of " For goodness sake Dad - get yourself an Apple"

It's worth putting up with the little eccentricities of the hardware for a quiet life! (What is more the design IS good and it all seems to work both individually and together)

John ( Ajohnw)

I was sat here musing about your prolific posting on this site and ( as one does!) I wondered how much time you spend at it.

Now I'm on here fairly often - and have been since the site first started. You will see my current number of posts on the left <.

I calculate that, at your rate of posting, I would have made around 17,000 posts in that time. Good grief man when do you find time to eat! smile o

Michael

I'm not too far away from that on my beloved Saab (which I've had from new and in which I've obsessively persued those palindromic moments !) It is currently over the 100k mark and is away with No2 son who is with us from Australia for a holiday. I just hope that he returns it before the 111111 clocks up ! (I also hope that he puts some fuel in it,)

Thread: Power Feed to Milling Machine Table
02/08/2016 13:49:19

Well Jonathon - first welcome to the fray!

I have a Warco mill/ drill with a power feed to the table and it is a great asset. ....... however I'm afraid I took the easy route and bought the power feed unit. So I have proved to myself that it IS a useful facility - but at a price ! If you can't get one via the birthday / Xmas route then I think the battery drill option sounds promising.

My wife has it on her pc - works OK - she upgraded from Win 8.

I had Win 7 but have since ( due to constant harassment from my kids and grandkids) converted to Apple !
