Gentlemen,

I'm asking the following out of my curiosity and for no other reason but when ever I turn on the news and covid is mentioned its has mental health attached, what I dont understand is why its an issue, my wife and I are not gregarious people we enjoy each others company, are both retired and can and do spend time at home alone,even when life was normal, we have friends and family and use all of the available equipment to stay connected so why dont we have mental issues.

I was at my Brothers with my sister and our wives and husband in Olney Bucks when the BBMF passed over his house at 12:45 approx on their way home.

Reading the above makes me think I'm one of the youngest, I was born in 1954 and was brought up in Selhurst, South East London, when I went to Junior school it was only a 10 minute walk but when the smog came down you only knew when you found a zebra crossing when you bumped into the belisha beacon pole, I remember trolley buses, yellow in colour but cant remember where. Before WWII my Grandfather was a Chaffeur for a family in Kent, they Holidayed in Scotland and it was a three day trip for my Grandfather to drive them there in their Rolls Royce, he thought I was winding him up when I said I drove to Stirling and back in a day and did several hours work on a Robot welding system, I have a note book of his full of notes on how the car worked, he had done a course with RR Cars, during the war he worked for Thorney Croft machining turret rings for tanks, after the war he went to Daimler car hire and drove for them. Many years later we were walking around Long Melford steam rally looking at the cars when he took his diary out looked at a Daimler and said I drove that one for Daimler. Grandad later on bought his own London Cab and learnt the Knowledge.

From about the age of nine I used to get the train from Selhurst Park and travel on my own to South Kensington underground station and visit the museums on the understanding I was home no later than 18:00, god help me, imagine children being allowed to do that today.

As kids my brother, sister and I were brought up on Offal and we still enjoy it today, I used to go to the Faggots shop to fetch Faggots and peas pudding for my Dads tea and with Mum we used to visit a Grocer who still sold sugar and salt in paper bags and loose tea, like others have said frozen windows in the morning and usually frozen shut as well. In 1967 we moved to Bury St Edmunds because Dad had a new job working for Vintens as a draftsman, whilst we were packing up to move Dad tried to get a Mobylette Moped and a push bike with an engine in the back wheel on to the van but mum told him to leave them as he no longer used them, try and buy the engine in the wheel push bike today and you would need a big load to buy one, from that point on our uncles and aunts refered to us as country bumkins, the rest of my parents family all stayed within very short distances of the home town of Sutton ot Wimbledon.

Gald to hear that only your pride has been hurt, the only problem with being banned to ground level is it costs to get somebody in to do what you used to do, I've had Neuropathy in both my feet for the last seven years and its been getting progressively worse and I've found I can no longer use ladders as I cant feel the rungs and its affecting my balance, so hedge cutting, wall paper hanging etc has to be paid for.

Two Spitfires passed over Bedford this lunchtime at around 2000 feet heading north east, I believe that they were BBMF because the engines were quite low rpm and flying in close formation with the left of the pair with his nose in front.

The Canadians had a good aerobatic team that displayed most years at RAF Mildenhall airshows with Starfighters, the later genaration of F 104's had a sting in their tale if you had flown early MK's, the early planes you ejected out of the bottom if you had to but the later ones came out of the cockpit, it wasnt unknown for a pilot to flip a later version forgetting he would do himself a mischief if at low level.

Gentlemen,

I am retired but have a part time job and I'm classed as a "Health Care worker", I work for a Chemist and deliver medication to patients twenty hours a fortnight and I come into contact with on average 100 + people, some are in personal lockdown and a few have had/got it, I follow all of the requirements with the exception of a mask unless I'm entering a building that requires it, but most of the time I'm outside so its not required.

Recently our Borough Council requested that all "Health Care workers" be tested as the number of cases were rising, so I made an appointment and that evening I was tested, two days later I had the results, negative, my point is if we obey the rules and restrictions within reason you can still get out and about.

To get a four digit code you must have requested it via requesting an action from them i.e. changing your password, you put the four digit code into a displayed box on the screen so that BT know you are who you say you are as they sent you the code, this then allows you to change your password etc.

I received those two emails and deleted them as I didnt believe them to be from BT as the format of the form was different, ive had no issues because I ignored them.

Wish I could buy at Specsavers, if I take my eye tests to them they say we will have to get these specially made as you fall outside of our standard range.

I've worn varifocals for many years and I can only assume I'm an odd ball as I either ignore the problems others have listed or have never noticed them, before varifocals I had bifocals and they drove me around the bend if I didnt move my head and looked down the ground used to rush up and meet me.

Just looked at your pictures and realised that there are several on Ebay at the moment, Seth Thomas another clock maker also produced a deck clock which is very similar in design.

I've got myself into clocks and I have a friendly commercial clock repairer who suggested to me to place the whole mechanism into a cleaning tank and with tooth brushes clean away all of the muck etc then lubricate with a light oil but use it sparingly, each spindle tends to sit in its bearing which is in a dimple, the dimple will hold the small amount of oil.

If you take the mechanism apart you will not have enough hands and fingers to reassemble it you can buy rings to put around your wound spring to stop it un winding when dismantled, My friendly clock repairer says to only take apart if you have parts that need repair of remaking,

As I've said before I bought the BT phone system soon after it came out, I dont miss calls as the likes of the Doctors etc have my mobile no, the home phone sits quietly in the corner doing its job of blocking calls, we get the odd one or two a week blocked by the phone which are easily deleted.
