Thread: MEW200

Isnt that part of the challenge, to make it I will have to adapt it to suit my lathe so a lot of the detail will be off no use to me but the basic premise is good enough for me to copy.

Gentlemen,

I'm going to buck the trend and say that I think its a very good colection of articles, I quite like the motoring piece firstly because I own a classic car and secondly because as a Newsletter writer of a club I belong to I find that putting an outsider into the pages of the general club subjects lightens it up and gives the reader something else to think about.

The various engineering subjects are interesting as well particularly as I've never seen them, the ball turning piece iis of particular interest to me, as the saying goes you can please some of the people some of the time and not most of the time smiley

Just out of curiousity what scale are you building it to and what model, I collect full size Lister's and my L type has the same crankcase base.

Thread: J B Tooling, Indexing Tips
05/02/2013 12:52:07

Gentlemen,

I'm not sure if this is in the right place and I think this question has come up before but cant find it either so will ask away.

I saw and spoke to J B Tools at Alexandra Palace about some tips I was after for a friend, they didnt have any but I was told to ring them at a specific time the next day so passed this info to my friend.

He rang at the arranged time and got no answer and has tried again since but an email from him today says he has given up.

Any idea's please.

Thread: A preview of Model Engineers Workshop
01/02/2013 18:54:11

David,

As one of those that only started MEW with no 98 I am more than happy with the content, I have enjoyed every article printed so far whether its of direct interest or not as there is no harm in learning something new.

Gentlemen,

The old adage "you pays yer money and yer takes your choice" comes to mind, I agree with David you buy cheap so why complain.

Thread: Alexandra Palace show
22/01/2013 16:59:17

Gentlemen,

I went on the Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed myself, I did ask on here what the weather conditions were like as my Arthritic knee's make walking on dry ground hard work so slippery conditions would be a no no, for some reason the posting didnt appear until after the show so I took a chance and then found that it wasnt very good under foot particularly when I had to walk from the railway station to the underground because of un recorded track repairs, my high light of a very good show was on the Victoria Model Steam Boat Club stand, they had a laptop running loads of pictures one of which was my Grandfathers boat "Smokey" on Victoria Park pond where he used to take it for the straight running competitions. After speaking to a gentleman who turned out to be the VMSC secretary he has kindly sent me a copy of the picture, made my day.

Thread: Rechargeable Cells
18/01/2013 20:37:48

Gentlemen,

This subject has come up on another forum, a friend of mine has just bought himself another camera and he bought some batteries off EBay of similar rating mentioned, he has his own industrial charger manufacturing business, train chargers etc, when he got the batteries he charged them up and found that they didnt charge anywhere near a third of their rated capacity so totally useless for the job. Dont bother a waste of money.

Thread: Sheet Metal
15/01/2013 21:27:40

Gentlemen,

All my sheet steel comes from dismantled Dexion racking, not sure of the gauge but shelving is one thickness and the back panels are thinner. Most of the time its cost me nothing, I just wait until my company clears the stores smiley

Thread: Cool down a mini-mill motor.
12/01/2013 18:23:09

Johan,

Have you considered putting a tube on top of the motor to adapt to your 4" fan, have you also considered putting filter media across the air intake at the other end to stop muck going into the motor.

Thread: Arbor Presses.

You can use Fly Presses delicately, i've broached key ways quite happily with no problems.

Max,

I have a Fly press that I find more practical particularly with the ball weight, I find arbor presses need a lot of effort to use.

Kevin,

Place a piece of bar in your chuck and turn a 60 deg taper to a point, this will be your centre at the chuck end.

Thread: Black hole

I have dropped what you would think is a large item only to see it actually disapear into a Black hole, the worse thing is when it pops up in the house somewhere a few days later smiley
