Thread: Parkside controllers |
25/04/2021 18:21:53 |
hello, Has anyone else had problems with Parkside Controllers of Nelson, not answering calls. One of our club members took his loco in for repair just before first lockdown in March last year and hasn't been able to find out anything about it. |
Thread: Superheater |
08/01/2017 17:14:20 |
I have bought a part built bantam cock, with a boiler in early stages. The tubeplates are drilled without tubes for superheaters; like early boilers were. my question - are superheaters really necessary for a loco like this?. Does anyone have evidence that they will make a noticeable difference to performance. This boiler is quite large for a 3.5" gauge. The barrel is 4.5" OD , is round top , with a wide firebox. There is no combustion chamber. Any opinions/advice would be much appreciated. I was surprised to find there is no similar thread already.

Thread: Brass tube for Smokebox |
29/12/2016 09:32:49 |
Can anyone tell me if and where i can buy a length of large diameter brass tube for a smokebox, rather than have it rolled. It is for a 3.5" gauge B1 and i need it about 4 3/8" OD and about 3/32" thickness preferably. Long shot i know. Any info. much appreciated

Thread: varnish |
21/02/2015 17:44:20 |
I have just sprayed Phoenix varnish over the running board of my model. The finish was a bit speckly so i wanted to re-paint over the varnish. I waited 24 hours then rubbed down but the new finish is worse . i think there was a reaction between the varnish solvent and underlying paint. Has anyone any experience of painting over a previously varnished model, or do i have to completely strip down and start again. Any advice much apppreciated |

Can anyone tell me if there was a Data Card published in Issue 61. I notice that they ran from 22 to 64 incl. but mine is missing from 61. Thanks in anticipation. mike |
Thread: Loco Design Co |
15/03/2012 17:08:51 |
Hi, Has anyone any experience of building either of these models. The castings and plans are sold by Blackgates. I fancy building a 3 cylinder loco with slide valves and these seem to fit the bill. Any info. would be useful - their web site is no use- its permanently 'under construction'.

Thread: Fluorosint , mica filled ptfe |

John,
yes - just the basic PEEK. I've looked at RS , I never would have thought of them - so if the basic PEEK doesn't work out - I'll try the Bearing Grade at about £40 for a foot. Thanks again for all the info.

John,
I 've bought the PEEK now on ebay ( at a total of £6 for 10" !!) so i will give it a try - just for the heads as you suggest. So the next question is - where did you get the loaded PEEK from ? - and did you consider the glass loaded PEEK as an alternative which apparantely has a lower expansion rate,

John,
thanks v. much for that info. - disappointing but good to know as i was banking on using it. Just to be clear, have you tried PEEK just for bobbin heads? also when you say 'I now run bronze bobbins with PTFE heads' are you using fluorosint?
cheers,

Jason, thanks for the info. I have been advised that a material called PEEK might do just as well - and it is considerably cheaper , so i will have a go with that , cheers, mike |
Thread: Britannia in 3.5"gauge |

Has anyone any experience of building Britannia , but using slide valves rather than piston. I was wondering if the cylinder set for Evening Star would be suitable, mike |

Does anyone know of a source of fluorosint,? I need a few inches to make the bobbins for the piston valves of my Euston, Martin Evans 8F, in 3.5" gauge. Also i would really like to hear from anyone with experience of using this material. |
