Thread: Nutool spares |

Keep falling into the trap my next door neighbour keeps setting. After pulling the trigger on his 'Erbauer' (Screwfix) drill, "Does this mean it needs new brushes?" Discounted by the magic smoke issuing from the rear vent slots. T'iternet entries determine lack of spares and the 'bung it in the bin and replace' attitude by the suppliers, Hmm. After putting the right words (18v DC motor 12teeth gear) into the search box and about 15mins shuffling through pictures and pages located a beast in question. Fleece Buy connection extracted £13.27 from my card, ordered and within 5mins DISPATCHED, unfortunately, must be on a slow delivery camel from Shenzeng, due on 27th Sept. BUT vastly cheaper than even the Lidl alternative. Word of warning, had to replace the armature on a Bosch circular saw (Worm reduction cut on shaft) and the coils on a Bosch sander (magic smoke), both items cost half the price of a new appliance. Regards Ian.

Was told by a technician years ago that there was no fibre link to my property and there never would be from BT. Virgin connection is available but due to their policy of increasing the cost of service, usually around April 1st and T's & C's the so called 'Contract' price isn't worth the paper it's not printed on, so twelve years ago, they were told to go and get pregnant. Changed to Yackety Yack who INITIALLY did honour the price for the term of the contract BUT following the big boys also now go down the April fools game. Another change to Shell, but both Yak and Shell are tied to the BT line so 11 moggies 'speed' (2 to 4 REALLY), they will get the deep six this year as their planned rip off to me is due to go from £19 to £31 for 11 mogs and land line. Enter BRSK who have strung overhead fibre lines all over with 1 GIGGLIE speed for £30 per month down to £25 for 100 moggies. Now given that as a wrinkly my internet usage only warrants about 10 to 15 Mogs if that was GUARANTEED speed for less than £20 fine BUT in their blurb they confirm NO unplanned increase for the duration of the contract period. Wonder what happens in April?? Don't need T'internet at warp factor 27, sadly, the list expands, :- Gipsies, tramps and thieves, car and double glazing salesmen and ISP's.

Would have been "Chastised" if caught using a mechanically driven abrasive on alloy when we had an ingineerin industry. One of the deadly no no's. regards Ian |

WW2 proved the superior ability of the US Yep, a brief period in history when their manufacturing industry moved into gear AFTER 1941. Bit like the Brits inventing Football and Cricket, EVERY other nation seem to think them with the most goals/wickets wins. Thanks to the efforts of a Mr.Ford, I wonder how the residents of Detroit feel about their manufacturing efforts being thrashed by Japan/Korea and now China? Innovation is the exploitation of invention. Regards Ian. Edited By Circlip on 21/08/2023 11:30:05 |

Never assume that what worked well 50 years ago has any value in 2023! RUBBISH! Literally AND metaphorically. Just finished strimming and de-weeding the footpath outside my property, didn't happen fifty years ago when the three man crew with the big metal wheelie bins cleaned the paths and gutters and how much litter is left AFTER the "Waste disposal operatives" have been? Didn't happen when we had dustbin men who weren't averse to actually PICKING UP rubbish. No matter how 'Safe' you try to make machinery and processes, you'll always find a better idiot. Wouldn't want anyone else to suffer the 'Incidents' that happened to me over more than forty years in ingineering, some of which caused a slight loss of blood, but NEVER a repeat cause. Used to be a term called common sense but that is an attribute lost in history thanks to the cotton wool attitude of today and that applies to ALL walks of life. Regards Ian. A Tech college instructor mate was nearly sacked when he gave one student a clip behind the ear for using a hammer to bash a piece of metal flat on a surface plate. This was sixty years ago. Regards Ian |

Unfortunately U Tub and what used to be called mobile phones, have allowed unsafe and stupid practice to be seen and followed by many as the 'norm'. Years ago, managed to get one foreign forum originator to add the forum would not be responsible for any injuries incurred by copying practices shown by any forum poster. When challenging one dipstick for using a milling cutter in a drill chuck (oh dear, I can hear the keyboard warriors rustling), his response was "I've been doing it like this for years" Rock on Tommy. Guzzi swinging arm bearings are like this, If you have a local Cat agent they probably have the specific puller. I managed to get a set of Guzzi factory tools from an agent no longer servicing them (Kings of Birmingham) years ago. The 'Puller' basically looks like a collet. Three splits and a threaded bore, the split end a smaller bore to allow the threaded rod to expand the working end. Working end O/D is the same dia. as the smaller end of the race and the main body reduced to form a lip on the working end. When inserted and tightened into the race, a 'Jacking' sleeve is placed over the assembly, bore of which is greater than O/D of the race, washer over the top and a nut screwed onto the tail of the threaded rod. Slight heat o the housing helps when drawing the inner out. Regards Ian. |
Thread: Are All Our Heritage Industries being Outsourced now |
11/08/2023 11:07:02 |
Peter hit it in the first paragraph. Joe Public wants the most value for the cheapest price. In later employment, worked first in Hi-Fi manufacturing and then CTV, both design and development It became rather obvious that no matter how much effort expended in designing a quality product, JP would, 90% of the time, go for initially the Japanese, Taiwanese and latterly Chinese products based on price which now unfortunately are the main source of 'Luxury' goods. Where would THIS 'hobby' be without mass disposable income and the likes of Axminster and Machine Mart etc.? Use it or loose it wouldn't allow two or three foreign holidays a year or a Merc,Audi or Beamer on the drive. Regards Ian. Heritage skills? Only two answers. Make thousands of components and sell cheap or a few and sell expensive. Edited By Circlip on 11/08/2023 11:29:41 |

Converted my Epson inkjet to CISS (separate ink tanks) years ago. For mono Laser i'd go for cheapest that doesn't have a horrendous cartridge price, but for intermittent use, original should last years. Regards Ian. |

Usually just a hole which should have a slight up angle from the outside wall to the inside. Again as Jason has stated, if correctly fitted, stops the ingress of water into the property. Red brick coloured ones look a pig on stone properties. Shouldn't be a 'coupler' under it. Regards Ian. Nick just beat me with angle whilst typing. other one to note is a rubber flanged plug on outside, again with the 'drop loop' and a flexible sealant.
