Thread: Indexing jig |
27/08/2023 13:40:27 |
What Baz says two rows 36 & 40 that is what got used most when I had the Unimat that came with 4 plates. The 5C indexer with it's 36 holes is good but sometimes being able to do 5 or 10 is useful but I've not got round to making a second plate I've seen dimples next to holes with different colour infill to help locate common combinations |
Thread: 12 or 16mm tools |
27/08/2023 13:34:15 |
First thing is to check that the tool holders go low enough to take a 16mm tool Second thing is wether the lathe is man enough to take cuts larger than you already can with 12mm. This is 0.250" eg 1/2" off dia with a 1/4" tool. Only really need more if overhang is greater. Could not cut anywhere near that deep on say a 6" dia part as lathe will stall long before the tool cross section is tested to it's limit Edited By JasonB on 27/08/2023 13:58:07 |
Thread: Help! Excessive machine marks! |

I'd be interested to see if there is any spindle play. Find a decent thickness bar about 300mm long and hold in the chuck. Grab hold of the end of the bar and see if it feels like it is moving as you push and pull on it. |
Thread: 'O' Ring Groove Sizing |
27/08/2023 06:50:29 |
That's the nominal sizes then and nominal 3/32" section So my sizes will be OK of model use. The thing with many makers/suppliers charts is they are for much higher pressure use which results in far too much friction for our use in things like model engine cylinders and feed feed pumps. The figures I gave are based on tests done by Arnold Throp (Fleet Coreliss fame) |
26/08/2023 20:30:31 |
Is that actual size or nominal size? My thought s are that it is a nominal 3/32" ring with actual cross section of approx 0.103. Typical size for model use from Model Engineers Handbook would be groove width of 0.125" and depth from cylinder 0.098" which is approx 5% compression

DC31K has already posted how to suck that Egg earlier in the thread, SOD, fellow Linux man) has improved on it but keeping quiet at the moment a he is busy trying to break the new forum though It may be broken to start with. |

Hi Gray Unfortunately I can't see any tracking of views of images, they way they will be added makes it even harder than it might be now as they won't be in an album (gallery) that is part of the website' You have got me looking and I see that there does not even appear to be a number of views of a thread (topic) going to have to fill in another feedback form about that now (No41) as it is indeed nice to know on things like a build thread that you are not just writing to yourself when there are no comments. On the good side on the new forum I would have been able to post a link to take you to the exact post where I gave the current state of play. Here it is again "Aim is about a months time but don't hold your breath it was originally going to be April (not the 1st) when this thread was started" |

That is one point me and Dave have been working on trying to get better than what the new one has at the moment Would be really nice to have a "posts since last visit" or such like. Rest assured that at least Me and Dave are doing our best to get the new site as good as possible, I don't think some staff are going to like the e-mail sent and comments I have made this morning |
Thread: Metric Fine Threads |

Posted by Neil Lickfold on 25/08/2023 23:36:34:
I buy the partial form outside threading inserts in the pitch I want. How does that work Ick? All the partial form inserts I have seen tend to cover a range of pitches eg 0.5 to 1.5 If I wanted to cut say a 0.75mm pitch I would have to by a full form 0.75mm pitch insert as I can't by 0.75mm partial form |

Model Flying will keep its format that was changed to a couple of years ago as far as I know. Model Boats will change to the same new format as ME/MEW |

It will put portrait as portrate and not stand you on your head. Will not need to be put into a gallery, if still on your device then copy and paste or easier still drag from say file explorer to new forum. If you don't have a copy you could go looking for it in a previous post, copy & paste the url into the new post. Or as I have said backup anything here in albums if you feel you may want easy access to it again. For the small number you have Howard it is hardly worth bothering about and won't take long if you do need to copy any. |

Ian, along the top of the first post on this page and along the bottom you will see 1-2-3---7, simply click 5 to be taken to page 5 when I started posting yesterday. Edited By JasonB on 25/08/2023 13:13:09 |

Plenty of free to use model engineering forums allow them so hopefully there will be enough funds here. |

All replies have individual numbers, url of which can be copied and pasted as a link to take someone straight to a post (now called reply) One of the first things I raised when I started testing was a need for attachments, in fact raised it months ago when we we shown what we would possibly get. I think it was covered in an earlier thread or maybe this one. I'd also like to see DWG, DXF, STP, STL

Joe, someone did post a program in Python that should do it in one go from an album but it does need a few tweaks, Sillyoldduffer may be able to help. |

Looks like the new forum knows what is up and what's down, this image displays the right way up on the new forum, it was taken with phone upside down ( button on left) |

They also come up a lot larger Just been looking and there is an edit tab but does not seem to work to have reported that to the back room boffins. .PNG file scan also be inserted Can't see a rotate but hopefully the new software will take care of that better than it does now, that's something else to try |

Howard, As said they will still be available to view in old threads threads What you won't be able to do is post a reply such as "have a look in my albums to see my ctr height gauge" as the album will no longer be there. If you now want to do that sort of thing then you would need to create a new "gallery" and put those 5 ctr ht gauge images into that. Neil was erring towards not having any galleries but I think it is useful as we often see people being directed to an album so at the moment we will have them. Ches We have only had about a day to find our way around, I don't think there will be many options to edit but resizing is possible as the inserted image has the common border and corners around it that can be moved with a mouse. |
