Thread: John Parslow skeleton clock

A bit more progress. All wheels now planted and running smoothly, (picture added to album). I made one planting error and had to bush the plates and try again but all's well now.

Next task is to sort out the escapement. At the moment I can't get it to work on the depthing tool so more investigation is needed.

I have a laptop running Linux Mint and my email and password box is extended and obscures the text next to it. OK on PC running XP. Both use Firefox bowser.

OK here on PCLinuxOS and Firefox (13.0).

I also read that our 43.3P FIT is much less than that paid in Germany,Spain and Italy, yet our government thinks it is too generous.

It is far too generous when it only costs about 5p/kWh to generate it in a nuclear power station which also generates zero carbon emmissions.

Yes,the Mac version of DraftSight works fine.

As does the Linux version.

Peter,

Sorry I don't know if Autocad 2000 will run on Windows 7. Vista certainly gave problems. I was running it on Windows XP with no problems but I now run Linux with XP running on a virtual machine it used to run OK but an upgrade to the virtual machine software has broken something.

If you upgrade your machine why not stick to XP. Failing that, if you can stand the complexity of the program you can get Autocad 2013 here free of charge if you are either a student or a retired professional engineer.

Me, I'll stick to Draftsight nowthere are Mac, Linux, and Windows versions available all free.

What I do is import drawings (e.g. a crude 3-view) or bitmaps inro Corel Draw and draw the lines 'over' the bitmap. It's surprisingly quick and imagine would work even better in a true CAD

You can do this in DraftSight by choosing from the menus; Insert > Reference Image. You will however have to ba careful to get the scale right.

Unless you are using it all the time I find the latest versions of Autocad too complicated. I used to find Autocad 2000 to be good but my current machine won't run it so I use Draftsight which is similar - and it's free.

The Boxford is a lot more complicated and may be a 3 phase supply

If it is, just change the motor wiring from star to delta and buy an inverter. Infinitely better than single phase.

Russell.

P.S. Well perhaps not infinitely but certainly much smoother!

Redrawing in CAD will also help you to spot any errors in the original drawings.

+1 for Draftsight.

If you look about halfway down this thread you will see a good description of how to tram the head/column.

Thread: Fitting Digital readouts (DRO's) to Clarke CMD10 mini mill.

If you follow Trevor's line it would be a good idea to make a shield of some sort to protect the scales from swarf. I have made a similar mod but mounted the long scale at an angle under a piece of ali angle to give it some protection. I've still had to dismantle the scale to remove tiny bits of swarf from the pcb tracks on the readout.

The lamps that Russell highlighted are available from "Hombase" for £5.99 each.

Thanks for that. I've just ordered a bunch of them. Unfortunately Homebase won't post to France so it will be a while before I get my hands on them.

Opera updated itself yesterday evening and this site seems to work ok now.

However this page and the main page are still showing 4 code errors on validation. There is no guarantee that browsers will all handle the fauly code the same way.

You have just described a SX2 although the SX2 has an even beefier column than the Clarke version.

. . . and a more powerful belt driven head assemblysmiley

Posted by Richard chucklbutty on 15/06/2012 15:54:49:I had a Victorionox £70 multi tool which i dropped in the canal, it was non magnetic stainless steel, i nearly cried, now i'm using a toy Chinese one of these too.

I have a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife which I've had for about 30 years. The spring in the scissors broke so I emailed them to see if they would sell a new spring. They told me to send it back to Switzerland for repair, free of charge, as they are guaranteed for life. Will you get that service from China?

I agree that the Super X2 Plus is a good choice. I've recently taken delivery of one (in France) for converting to CNC.

I stripped it down completely, following earlier experience of Far East machines, and was surprised at how well it was put together. The only problems were the poorly drilled locating holes in the gib strips (easily fixed) and the fact that the drawbar for the drill chuck had been tightened by a gorrila!

If you stone it on the front edge rather than the top of the teeth there is no dager of loosing the correct angle and you should be able to do it by hand if it is not too bad.

Or Kwrite on a Linux box.
