Hugh. Just a thought, you say the lead screw is difficult to turn so I assume you have a hand wheel on the RH end.Is it possible that the thrust coller fitted to the lead screw ( Part G62) on the left hand side of the RH leadscrew bracket needs adjusting. It's threaded & has a locking grub screw to adjust the lead screw end float. Ian |

Thread: The things you find at a garage sale! |
01/07/2013 19:30:17 |
Not a car boot sale but I went to the open day at Chester Machine Tools last week and bought a Sino SDS 6-2V DRO 2 axis display for £30 it looks unused. It was labelled " X axis faulty Y axis working" when I opened it up it's all surface mount components so I thought no chance of me getting it working. When I was checking the continuity of the ribbon cables from the D type connector on the rear to the molex PCB header I noticed that the 0 volts pin was displaced. when I refitted it into the Molex header the continuity was o/k. Took it round to my mates to try it using his reading scales and it worked!! What a bargain. Only problem is now I have to spend £250 to by the scales!! Ian |
Thread: Another motor wiring question |

Hi all. Thanks for the advice. A trip to Maplins to buy a bridge rectifier and now the motor runs well. Ian |

Hi. I have a parvalux motor I want to use on the wheel head of my workshop constructed tool & cutter grinder. The motor has the following information on it:- No. 11A.M/234124/6M V 200/220 V DC shunt A 0.7 HP 1/8 RPM 3000 Rating Cont. There are four wires coming out of it, two red & two white. I measure 84 ohms between the two red wires & 2.5K ohms between the two white wires, Looking on the Parvalux web site I found a wiring diagram showing one red & white wire connected together to one leg of the supply & the other red & white wire connected together to the other leg of the supply. The web site seem to suggest the supply could be AC or DC. I've tried AC put the motor runs very roughly. Does DC shunt mean the supply should be DC? If so would just a bridge rectifier be the answer. Thank you. Ian

Thread: Milling Vice. |

Alan. I recently was in need of a new milling vice, I ended up buying one from "Rotagrip" which I think is the same one you mention from "Gloster Tools". I consider it's well worth the price. Ian |

Mick. I've just received a MT3 ER25 collet chuck from CTC, took just 2 weeks to arrive ( and thats with Christmas in between) Cost was £19 including postage, no import/VAT paid. In the past I have bought a set of ER25 collets & ISO30 collet chuck from them. I'm more than satisfied with the quality. Ian |
Thread: Super 7 half nut adjustment |
22/10/2012 19:24:57 |
Bob. I found this else where on the www. Ian
Myford ML-7 Half Nut Adjustment. When re-fitting the saddle to the apron you will need to adjust both the saddle to apron fit and the lead screw half nut adjusting screw. 1. First unscrew the half nut adjusting screw right out. 2. Move the apron as far to the right as it can go and engage the clasp nuts – it will be tight. 3. Undo the screws securing the apron to the saddle and these two parts will self align. 4. Nip up the screws and then tighten the screws. 5. Move the apron to the mid point along the bed and engage the clasp nuts. 6. Hold the lever down with your left hand and screw in the adjusting screw until it stops, then take your hand off the lever and screw it in a further ¼ turn. Note: If you do not adjust this then you may get tracking marks when taking fine cuts – these will be at 1/8 inch? The lead screw pitch? |

Dean, You might laugh at this and I hate to admit it but I was very puzzled one day at the poor finish until I realised the spindle was rotating backwards!!!! Otherwise, the usual checks like centre height, spindle speed, rigidity of the tool and workpiece etc. Phil H
I can remember once at work one chap drilling some mildsteel angle iron cursing the crap drill bits until it was pointed out he had the drill on reverse !! Ian
