Thread: Worms |
28/06/2011 07:47:27 |
Hi
I am trying to create a 60:1 worm and wheel, for a project. I am using a 12mm X 1.5 pitch for the worm, but whatever I do I can only get 59: 1 or 62:1 never 60!
Have any of you gurus out there ever done anything similar, and could help with dimentions etc? |
Thread: Model Engineer Reader's Survey |
08/06/2011 15:38:59 |
Hi
I noticed that this survey has been put on this web page, which suggests that David is keen to get replies.
Why oh why is it not in a format that can be filled in on line?

Thread: Living with the digital copies |

Hi
Quote:I am just relaying the message.
I appreciate that David , but if I want to build something from an old copy, and cannot read the drawing, the digital archive is not a lot of use is it!
Who should we be emailing to put this point across, and hopefully get something done? Best Regards Keith Leeds UK |
Thread: Cutting oil |
31/05/2011 21:29:59 |
Hi
They do but will not supply it on its own, without purchasing a machine at the same time.
That would make it a bit too pricey!

Does anybody know of a supplier of neat cutting oil, that will supply small quantities at a reasonable price.
All the suppliers I have found so far only supply minimum quantities of 25 litres. A couple will supply 5 litres at about £30 plus carriage.
The last litre I purchased lasted me 2 years!

why can't you make one?
It is easy to divide a circle by 8 with a protractor.
What diameter hub?

Thread: This months MEW are 3 CNC features two too many |
14/05/2011 17:41:19 |
Hi
Surely the answer should be a dedicated magazine for CNC, so that those that like it can buy it, those that don't like it can stick with the manual machining, and my hobby store has the chance to make some more money.

Thread: New Year's Resolutions |
01/01/2011 08:43:31 |
Hi
I agree with many of the comments above, but one of MY pet hates is the inclusion of machine specific long articles. I would prefer short articles without many detailed drawings and the inevitable comment "These dimensions are not critical"
What about distributing the magazine electronically?
It would cut the cost of distribution, and cut out delivery delays. Overseas readers would get their magazine at the same time as the UK
Happy new year to all

Thread: Surface Rusting in Workshop |
27/12/2010 11:51:11 |
Hi I buy caterers size wd40 and spray everything when I quit the workshop.
In four years I have not had a rust problem and my workshop is a 12X8 wooden shed with no insulation

Thread: Cleaning up after Silver soldering (brazing) |
12/11/2010 07:57:29 |
Hi
I have found that ordinary malt vinegar works well as a pickle with brass and copper.
It is cheap, and you can get it in gallon bottles from your local supermarket.
I would NOT advise using it on your chips afterwards though!!!!

Thread: fusee stop |
07/11/2010 15:45:14 |
Hi
It is easier to put it together to see the operation, but basically the fusee cord pulls the iron on the last few turns of the fusee when you wind it up. This will then put the iron in the path of the stop to stop you overwinding and allowing the fusee cord to go over the edge of the fusee.
As i said it is easier to see than to describe

Yes they have gone into receivership, but Ian has started on his own. I did get an email from him some time ago, (February)
