Trouble is, if too many start cancelling or finding free on-line routes, for whatever their reasons, it could ultimately push the cost of these already expensive magazines up, leading to.... Trouble is, if there's very little relevant content in the "already expensive magazines"......... Readly is a subscription service - it isn't free! £9.99 per month but you have access to almost every printed magazine Worldwide plus a large selection of newspapers! MEW must have been added relatively recently as it wasn't available last time I looked - however both MEW and ME are there now! Peter |

But the shed in question is a workshop which is a major part of the magazine's title! Nonsense - using your logic, why not 7 pages on London Fashion Week? Because let's face it, the designs are worn by a "model" which is a major part of the magazine's title! Peter |

MEW 319 dropped through the letterbox today. 7 FULL PAGES, including photographs of roofing a tiny shed, 2 FULL PAGES (with no actual content) with a nod to vehicle customisation and 5 FULL PAGES about the London Science Museum? I subscribe to MEW for engineering related content, not basic DIY, car maintenance or tourist information! Surely the editorial team cannot be so hard pushed for content that they have to resort to this type of non-original content that is readily available in other (specific) magazines? Possibly next month you can have 7 pages devoted to weeding the garden or at least devote half a dozen full pages to making a cup of tea? I'm sure I'm not alone in being shocked by this issue and I pay for a subscription to expect to see articles on using lathes, mills etc to actually make some components or at the very least, have some relation to actual model (or other) engineering? This was a dreadful issue and I'm sure you knew it when publishing! Peter

Can anyone tell me if the nylon gears are still available somewhere? The only drive gear I see on ebay at the moment seems to be a very expensive Chinese version at £33. Found them - still on eBay - searching "sacrificial gear" brings up the 3 variations immediately, don't know how that didn't work before? eBay Item Nos:- 113999695630 (Hi/Lo + Drive), 114231114754 (Drive only) and 114224592712 (Hi/Lo only). I have not removed the "weakest link" from the system. The "upgraded" gears are still the weakest link in the system - although they are now made of engineering nylon PA2200 which has a higher melting point and is much stronger than the soft gray plastic version (which people think is delrin or similar). The nylon gears have been installed by quite a few users and are definately an improvement - and are also more readily available (and actually cheaper) than trying to get replacements of the stock gears from any of the UK milling machine suppliers. Can anyone tell me if the nylon gears are still available somewhere? The only drive gear I see on ebay at the moment seems to be a very expensive Chinese version at £33. |
