I have gone in order of the replies and thankfully the governor itself spun freely without any undue friction. I have now tensioned the belt again and it all seems to be running smoothly.

I think I was being over cautious with the amount of tension I was putting on the belt having never experienced one before; to a novice and as eluded to by Jim, they do seem a strange way transmitting power

This is my first ever post and I'm relatively inexperienced having only ever built a Stuart 10v and recently a no.9; forgive me if its a stupid question.

I have just finshed machining and fitting the governor to the no.9 with the spring belt provided. I'm getting slippage and cannot work out if its simply a new spring belt stretching and requiring periodic adjustment until the correct tension is reached and the stretch has been eliminated or if there is problem around the governor pulley mounting on to screw spindle?

Any advice great appreaciated
