The whole woke/offended thing has got progressively worse over the last decade imo.People literally go out of their way to find stuff that offends them nowadays. For the main part media outlets seem to embrace this way of life and actively encourage it in some ways.I really dont like the world we have become tbh, programmes that are repeated on certain channels from years ago even have warnings saying "this show reflects attitudes and humour etc of its time that people may be offended by" This was daytime tv! Im of the age where as young lads in our first jobs we saw the last of the "fun" stuff where the HSE now would be closing the place down, and where there would be several gross misconduct dismissals for "bullying" in the workplace. Now,you cant say or do anything, weve become soulless, personalityless robotic yesmen. There, that feels better now.......haha Or as is more commonly signed off now-RaNt OvEr!!11!! |

I would reckon that with the post pandemic period going straight into a takeover situation subscribers will just have to be patient and wait for the new ME gang to sort themselves out, and that could take a few months No way, that shouldnt wash at all.If someone is PAYING for a subscription every month or whenever its billed, then the item should be there-no excuses.I was tempted to subscribe online myself,as i end up with magazines everywhere and its a convenient way to read, but after seeing nothing but bad comments on here i shall remain a luddite for a little while yet! |

Thanks for the replies, some good help and inspiration there.I think I might well give this a go now, there’s a few tins of paint and a couple of bikes to relocate but I think I’ve a place for those.I suppose in this situation utilising what space there is will be carefully thinking of where drawers/shelving can go etc.. Hopefully I can make this happen then! |

Evening all,at the back of my house there’s no scope to build a workshop, there is however an old brick outbuilding. At roughly 2.6x1.6 it’s not by any means blessed with space but it’s probably my only chance of doing anything anytime soon with building something out the front of the house (much more space) bringing a hell of a lot of expense and time which I don’t exactly have at the moment, well more the money side of things for that! Am I being unrealistic with any hope of achieving something in that sort of sized space? The construction is single brick, concrete floor with a gable and pitched tiled roof-obviously some kind of insulation would be needed but is this possible without eating into the already tight space? I’d be wanting solid shelves up too, inside would be things like a bench and a mini lathe, possibly a small pillar/bench top drill. Apologies for a long post and any help or advice is always appreciated. |

Many thanks for the welcomes.Im based just outside Scarborough ,I shall have a look at links and the other suggestions, thanks. The first thing I need to do is get the workshop built and then gather up some machines etc.Whilst waiting for better weather and longer days I shall continue to read and watch videos to gain a better understanding of things. |

Evening all,i am an absolutely brand new beginner to the model engineering world and keen to hopefully learn new things/tips tricks and advice along the journery i have planned... I come from an engineering background, currently work as a structural steel fabricator/welder but have experience with alot of smaller gauge fab on sheet metal/tubes/handrails etc Did a fair bit of punching, pressing, milling and turning whilst doing this line of work but will be a few years since now.Certainly no experience with model engineering however! So what brings me here? well i happened upon some videos on auto play on youtube one night after a few beers and it brought me to model steam engines,i have always liked anything like that, but never pursued it as a hobby, spending a lot of time messing around with cars,Land Rovers and motorbikes. So my plans-i am literally starting out with very little,i have a few engineering tools which ive gathered over the years inc mic's,verniers, squares mig welder, grinder etc but other than that i have nothing and nowhere to currently do anything! I shall be constructing a small workshop at home hopefully by summer, nothing flash by any means but something realistic for the space and budget! Upon the way i hope to gather the information, advice, machines and tools i need to make a model steam engine kit later on. anyway enough rabble for now! |
