I looked at that model quite a few years ago and wasn’t wonderfully impressed, ended up buying a Emco PC50 mill with Siemens 820 control.

Thank you, I'll check out the Emco specs.

The agent in the UK for Golmatic was (is?) Brian Tate of Pro-Machine Tools fame. I get the impression that he is winding down the business but may still respond to his facebook page. If you can find him, he might be able to give you some opinions about Golmatic.

I can say for what its worth, I did make a cursory examination of one of these products 20 years ago and thought it look a decent bit of kit, albeit rather too pricey for me at the time. But what I knew about machine tools then would have fitted on the back of a postage stamp, so don't give this comment too much weight.

Gerry

Thank you Gerry, I will try to contact Brian via Facebook.

Thank you MichaelG. I am looking for reviews written by people who actually used the machine and can note the pros and cons. The machine is not cheap, to say the least (even for used one), so I would like to make my research and decide whether it worth the money.

My name is Eldi, I live in Sydney and have no formal education in machining. I learn a lot from this amazing forum and watching YouTube.

I would like to start a journey that will take me into building small models, engines, of various types, orrery, etc. I am doing it as a hobby, but with a thought at the back of my mind that maybe (maybe) someday in the future I would be able to earn little money from making custom-made scientific apparatuses, which are not available as off-the-shelf products. My background and current occupation is pure scientific research. I’ve always had the desire to design and build things, and when I graduated high school wanted to study mechanical or aeronautics engineering. However, for some reasons I ended up studying and doing other things…So now, at a later stage in life I am finding myself, again, enjoying tremendously from making and building things.

I am looking to purchase my first milling machine, I prefer it to be a CNC version, not purely manual.

I have been working with a gantry-type CNC machine for doing some woodworking, so I am familiar with the general principles of CNC operation, CAD and CAM design, I primarily use Fusion 360 and Vectric Aspire software. I lack a lot of knowledge in metal machining and everything related to it, this is my weak point.

Hello,

I am planning to purchase my first CNC milling machine, I came across a Golmatic MD24 machine for sale (used).

I wonder if someone can say something about this machine? I know the machine is made in Germany and there are only very few reviews of this machine, which I found in German forums.

Any advice/opinion will be appreciated, thank you!
