Thread: Clarkson Mk2 Tool Grinder & Accs for Sale/ID of Accessories
14/05/2021 22:44:13 | ||||
Just to say guys that there should be an advert for the Clarkson Mk2 tool grinder and accessories plus the other items discussed under this thread up on lathes.co.uk in the next week or so. Thanks for the input - takes a while to get grounded when you're not familiar with a market or with the equipment in question...

Thank you for the input Noel. 21 - they look OEM, but I've no idea what they are used for. The 47074 part number doesn't seem to bring up a pic or any information on a web search. 19 - it's a pity all right regarding the missing ABFG collets, they presumably are not widely available. 31 - the Jones Shipman wheel balancer does not have the bubble plate. 25 - the sleeves so far as I can tell do not have Morse taper bores, but are parallel. The seem much longer than the holder listed as 91125 standard equipment in the manual. The mix of accessories is a bit hit and miss, I don't know why. The machine as I said came from a now deceased friend. He may have bought it when the local branch of a US multinational with a mould maintenance oriented toolrom closed in the early 80s. He used it only intermittently to regrind small numbers of tools for customers when his tool design business was slack.

OK, thanks - found the latest for sale ads box, it displays well down the page. I previously looked for a forum thread. It links to the option to list a for sale advert. I'll put the advert in there, but can't do it yet as 'price' is a required field - I'm only finding my way towards a view on likely values.

It's here because I'd hoped for some assistance in the identification of some of the accessories Tony. I wasn't aware anyway of there being a for sale section, but if a moderator feels that the thread could be in a more appropriate section then that's for them to call.

That should be it on the information. Please pardon the formatting funnies, there may be some incompatability between Firefox and the forum software - or something else... : ) Edited By Sawdust on 09/05/2021 15:38:24 Edited By Sawdust on 09/05/2021 15:44:56

Ref the pictures in the album ‘Clarkson Mk2 Tool Grinder & Accessories for ID and Sale’ at **LINK** - the numers in the list correspond to those in the photo names. Clarkson Tool Grinder Related:

That worked out fine, thank you. The pictures are now up in the album ‘Clarkson Mk2 Tool Grinder & Accessories for ID and Sale’ at **LINK** The following x3 posts list the items (too many words to post it in one), the numbers correspond with the numbers of the photos in the album. Bear in mind that the descriptions and identification of the items is provisional. I have machine shop experience but the Clarkson is new to me. Item identifications are generally from the pictures in the manual. All is clearly used but functional. Some of the items had surface rust at some point which has left staining (the lows res/compressed pictures are not complimentary in this regard), but there is nothing which seems likely to affect function. Bores and ODs are very little affected, perhaps because they were oiled. As before I also have the photos in full resolution form, and can make these available and take measurements and/or provide additional close-up photos of specific areas to enable resolution of questions and/or in the event of serious interest.

Thanks guys. I've been trying to upload the pics (x32). Clicking 'browse' lets me access the folder on my PC, but I can't seem to select more than one pic at a time. All have been compressed to a few 100kbs each so they are not too large. Am I missing something? Can I for example select the folder containing all the pics, upload that and end up with all 32 pics dsplaying in a single album? If it is a case of doing it one by one, will they all end up in the same album?

Hi all. I posted last July (seems incredible it was so long ago) in General Questions under the topic 'How Best to Sell a Clarkson Cutter Grinder and Accessories' and left it that I would in due course come back with photos etc. It's taken ages to figure out what came with the machine, and also to list and photograph the items - there's quite a lot of accessories with it albeit with a few gaps. It's not been offered for sale anywhere else yet. I'll post the item list and some sample pictures on this thread later tonight or tomorrow, and would also appreciate feedback and help with the identification of some of the items. Also of course expressions of purchasing interest. I'm in Ireland which complicates matters (will advertise it here also), but it perhaps would not be such a big deal if the lot went in a single shipment. If it gets to the point where serious interest is being expressed I can verify measurements, provide close up photos etc. It'd help greatly if for example there exists a document with pictures and better still also dimensional information for the full list of accessories (optional as well as standard - the manual and the various websites seem only to include pictures for the standard accessories and there's items with this machine not in it) There's also separately a Grind All No.1 (75mm centre height) fixture which was possibly used in place of OEM equipment for some grinding operations. Also a Jones and Shipman 521 knife edge balancing stand and what looks to be a very little used UX.8004 radius wheel forming/dressing attachment in its case - both came with the grinder. It seems that the photos should go in an album. There's 30+, does anybody know if there is a cap on how many can be posted in an album? Thank you Edited By Sawdust on 08/05/2021 21:06:13

Thanks again guys, more good suggestions. Sounds like the lathes.co.uk service would be well worth paying for Dave - it's such a well known site. I suppose as ever it's profit versus other considerations. It'd seem a pity to split up a functional set (i.e. the basis of a multi capability cutter regrinding business or other operation), but the other side of the coin as Baz says is perhaps that many especially hobby buyers really only want to pay for what they immediately need. I will try a local advert Gerard. It's a matter of ships in the night I suppose. It'd save a lot of complications if it worked out though...

Thank you very much for the thoughts guys. I should say by the way that while I've only posted occasionally that I've been a background member that looks in occasionally for some years - the current ID is new. The email address it was based on was with a long defunct service provider, it finally stopped working some time ago. The good news is that it sounds like there's a ready market. Breaking up the set needs a bit of thought re. how my friend might feel about it, but sounds as though it's the way to maximise the return. I don't know if people regrind cutters as a business undertaking any more (the market is perhaps mostly hobby based?), but a buyer with that in mind would probably need a comprehensive set of accessories. Next step I guess is to wait for a nice dry day, then lay out, inventory and photograph the hardware.

Hi guys. I've been left (judging by the Lathes.co.uk page) a Clarkson Mk 2 or 3 (large column) cutter grinder and very comprehensive looking set of accessories by a deceased UK toolmaking friend who lived here in Ireland - and would appreciate hearing some thoughts on how best to go about selling it in the UK. (very small market here) I thought of using it as a plane blade and chisel grinder (my interest is primarily woodworking), but it would be overkill. It probably runs too fast for heat sensitive carbon steel blades anyway. It'd be nice to see it go to a good home. My friend used it very occasionally to grind cutters until about 8 years ago. It so far as I know was running fine when last used. It seems sound, but isn't squeaky clean - some of the accessories especially have light surface rust as a consequence of it having been stored in an unheated workshop. I'm happy to put time into taking and forwarding lots of photos and answering specific questions in the event of a serious interest. It's also likely that I could transport it to the UK and meet a buyer (the deal would need to be done in advance however), although meeting in the midlands or thereabouts would make life a lot easier. Thoughts? Thank you
