Thread: What fuses Warco lathe and Chester mill
25/06/2020 18:57:24

I emailed both Warco and Chester. Chester have confirmed 10amp in both fuse holders. I have not heard back from Warco but will update when I do.

Thanks all

Andy

I can confirm Nigel's post that the WM14 manual states that it is 8A. However I would be very surprised if this is a slow blow fuse as they require a significant current surge before they rupture, I would expect that it should be a fast blow fuse so that the semiconductors in the speed control unit suffer the minimum stress before the fuse ruptures. That said I will check what is fitted to my mill as it is still the original fuse that the machine came with to confirm or otherwise which it is.

Martin

Thanks

Thanks for your replies. You’ve now got me thinking, the numbers / letters on the fuse on the control side in the mill looks like it starts with a T. Meaning time delay.

Both machines have 2 fuses on the control panel. I thought I may get an answer on here before I contact them tomorrow. Also if they are like me at work, I only quote our part number for a bought in item.

Can someone tell me the correct fuses for a Warco wm14 mill and a Chester DB8 lathe. I bought both second hand and want to get some spare fuses, and can’t see anything in the manual. And can’t read for certain what’s on the fuses in both machines.

Thanks in advance Andy

Sorry to hijack this thread but what’s your thoughts on the Chester Champion 16v. Chester have an exdisplay one for a good price and I’m finding it tempting. Also collet chuck or individual MT2 collets.

Thanks

Hijacked two weeks ago? Thought you would have a mill from ARC installed by now as you said a fortnight ago you should stop dithering! Could have pushed it home in a wheelbarrow - that would save quite a tidy sum.

Compare the specs carefully - for instance, you may well find the motor power quoted by Chester is power in, not power delivered by the motor (0.82HP is a peculiar, if not unique, motor power🙂 ).

Watch out for other disparities in the way specifications are quoted.🙂

Chester are currently saying that model is out of stock?

They had an ex demo for sale over the weekend, now gone. I've bought a lathe so i am halfway there.smiley

Hi everyone, with retirement looming I am setting up a home workshop. I’ve been an engineer since being an apprentice back in the seventies. Just bought a Chester DB8 lathe from a member on here, next is a small mill.

Anyway the reason for my post is twofold one to say hello the other to ask what have I done wrong or not. Just set the lathe for slow feed and now have a gap between the securing screw and the bottom gear and no room for a spacer.
Hope you can see what I mean in the photo. Now the next problem how to post a photo ??

Looking at the various Chinese machines they are all very similar. Is anyone make better than others. Looking to spend around £1200 on a mill.

Thanks Andy

The machines are more-or-less made to the same design, but details vary. They're made down to a price, mostly OK, but some rough examples escape. Probably matters more who you buy from because the game is more about what happens if you get a poor example than identifying wonderfulness. There's a hint that some suppliers do better than others in terms of quality, but - as far as I know - all the main UK vendors refund or replace if they send out a dud.

ArcEuroTrade have an unblemished reputation : I bought all my machines from Warco. They all worked out-of-the box and they all benefited from minor tweaking. I have no complaints. Axminster are more expensive, but offer an extended warranty. Best avoided I think is ordering direct from China, or from the continent, or from the sort of temporary online seller who might be selling factory seconds.

Unless the intention is to specialise in small work, good advice is to buy the biggest machine you can manage (space and money!)

With hindsight I spent far too long dithering about which of the rather similar machines I should buy. Now I think it was a waste of time : any one of them would have done. For what it's worth I have a Warco WM18, which has done all I've asked of it. It's the biggest mill have I space for!

Get stuck in and enjoy.

Dave

Thanks for the information, Arc are only 3 miles away from me so that’s another plus for them. Looks like I just need to part with the money and stop dithering

Hi all, I’m new to these small machines and with retirement looming on the horizon I am looking to kit out a home workshop.

I’m not intending to build anything huge, so a small hobby machine should be fine, plus I don’t have room for a Bridgeport.

I assume you’ve tried eBay. Maybe you could adapt something
