Hmm, I can't seem able to upload photos from my phone to this. Oh well.

I have 4 wires, I now know where they come from on the switch (which are live or neutral) but don't know what terminal on the motor to connect them to.

There are two additional wires coming out from the top of the motor. I think they should connect to the start capacitor, but there should also be a centrifugal switch?? Is it built inside the motor?

Hope that's clear, thanks again in advance!

Hi guys, thanks for your responses.

Adam, that diagram is a great help and matches what I've found so far with my multimeter

NDIY, alas it isn't quite so easy, the wires are not all different colours, and it's the wiring up itself I'm questioning

I'll post a couple of photos to better explain the predicament...

Hi Howard,

Thanks for your response. I too have copies of those but the wiring diagram makes no sense to me, and I can read electrical drawings!

It just shows the latch switch internals, basically, no other part of the circuit. Plus the terminal codes written on it don't match anything marked on the machine.

Afraid I need something with a bit more accurate detail

Hi Martin, I'd really appreciate a copy of those drawings too, thanks!

Simon,

I have an electrical drawing and parts list supplied by machine mart customer service, if you want copies PM me.

To get to the point, my questions are...

How does the start capacitor connect up, should there be a centrifugal switch, or is it in fact a run capacitor that I shall need to buy instead?

Is there a way of telling which wires should connect to where on the motor? I know which wires come from where on the switch so if one of you would be kind enough to tell me how yours is connected (motor block terminal numbers) that would be amazing!

Is the additional NVR switch a superfluous addition from the previous owner? I can't see what purpose it could be for or how it could be wired up.

Many thanks for any help!

Will

Hi everyone, first post here and hoping this thread is still live.

I too am in the process of wiring up a CL500M (been in bits in a garage for years since buying it cheap!

The situation is all wires are unmarked, sigh, and many disconnected.

The motor is totally disconnected and start capacitor removed (previous owner thought it was faulty so I've bought a new one.)

The start stop and reverse switch is mercifully still connected.

However, there is a secondary Unimac NVR switch attached to the machine but all wires cut off inside the box.

Also no sign of the centrifugal switch for the start capacitor...

Thread: Scale Engine Speed

Thank you for all your replies, a great help.

Interesting it should be the same, useful as I've just found a portable tacho!

Plan is to attempt a working model of the Titanic's engine room, although still just thinking about it. It will have scale shafting and condensers so hopefully runs smoothly.

Hi Jason,

Will be steam, triple expansion. Still a bit of a pipe dream, especially with this coronavirus.

Will this affect the scale speed though?

Hi everyone, new here and first question of I'm sure will be many.

I'm hoping to start building a scale model of a steam marine recip. Engine.

What do you think is the best calculation to get the rotation speed of the engine looking a true match for the real thing (78rpm full speed)?

Watching all of the exposed linkages moving around I absolutely love, and want to know what I'll be looking at is truthfull.

Thanks for any help

Will
