I tried my ME index with no success so thank you that lead! I'll look it up next time I'm at the NRM.

Thank you. It was that article that started me off actually. Did the pictures a bit further down? What a place!

Hi.

I've been doing a bit of research on model engineering for an exhibition I am planning. Everybody on the ME forum has been so helpful and knowledgable I wonder if you might be able to help me again?

I'm looking for some information on Sue O'Connor and her shop Steam Age. I've read that it was the Cartier of the model engineering world and that she may have been related to Bassett-Lowke some how. I hear that the shop closed some time ago but is she still alive? Has anybody written about her? Has her writing ever graced the hollowed pages of ME?

Thread: Percival Marshall gramophone message?

I have. Think it might be a touch fast. I love it though, it really sums up what its all about.

This is just the thing, thank you!

I shall send my shillings to the usual address at Fisher Street in that case

Thank you for all your answers. I'll get in touch with SMEE and see if they can help.

Hi.

I read in the SMEE's excellent history that Percival Marshal recorded a gramophone message for the readers of ME in the 1930s. Has any one come across this record and does it exist on line at all?

Greetings Brian

Thank you for your answer. This brings much clarity. I've just been reading about the early days of the ME Exhibition in the excellent 100 Years of Model Engineering. There is a fantastic picture of Sir Nigel Gresley driving on the track at the 1937 exhibition.

Also, I'm bit confused about the show. Am I correct that the Model Engineering Exhibition in London is no more and that this has been superceeded by the National Model and Engineering Exhibition in Harrogate?

I will get in touch with SMEE and see what they have as well.

I'm looking for a list of past winners at the Model Engineering Exhibition. Would anyone know if a record exists anywhere?

many thanks

I've taken the plunge and gone for a digital subscription. At a very reasonable £12 it seemed like a worthwhile risk!

Hi

I would like to find out about past winners at the Model Engineering Exhibition for an exhibition I am researching. Do you know if there is a list anywhere (no matter how incomplete) and if so, could you point me in the right direction please?

many thanks

Jamie

Hi Neil

I've been looking through the index and there are ME articles from the 1930s I'd like look at. Does the archive go back that far?

Hello again.

The LBSC link is fascinating! Thank you.

Does anyone have experience of using the Model Engineer archive that is listed on the website? Do you get full access to the archive as a subscriber (i.e the ability to read back issues from 2001) or is this just for issues that you have purchased?

Thank you for that. The features section looks very interesting.

Thank you for the link to SMEE. I'll try and get hold of the 100 years history.

I'm curious to find out a bit more about LBSC. I'm looking forward to reading more about Henry Greenly on the train to London tomorrow.

I have not. Please excuse my ignorance but what does SMEE stand for?

17/02/2020 14:41:34

Thank you for the help with the index. This looks really useful!

Thank you. Yes, very much I'm looking for information on notable model engineers. I've found David Curwen's fantastic book but have struggled a little otherwise.

Hi

I'm researching model locomotive engineering and I am looking for a bit of advice. Is there a good general introduction to the scene's history? I'm also looking for some history about some notable makers, especially Harry Powell, Louis Raper, Ron Martin and David Aitkin. Also, could someone point me in the direction of a searchable index of Model Engineer magazine? I'd love to hear from any historians of the hobby!
