Thread: How to test dc motor or board? |

Sorry, duplicate post Edited By Gerard O'Toole on 15/09/2020 11:55:51 |

Sorry for reopening this thread, I have a replacement board, identical to the old one, and i am about to fit it. As I mentioned, the fuse is fitted to the neutral wire instead of the live wire and I know that needs to be changed.. But also, the live wire is going to the "N" pin on the board and the neutral wire is going to the "L" terminal. . I have traced the wiring and is shown in this diagram But the lathe worked okay with the Live and Neutral wire connected wrongly. Would that be possible that the board would work with the live and neutral wire reversed? And do i risk causing more damage 'correcting ' this?
The manual shows the wiring diagram as this Thanks for any help. Sorry for posting so many photographs Gerard

Thread: Use of 2 front wheeled motorcycles on the TdeF |

Having ridden a Yamaha Niken I think this additional stability thing is just not noticeable while riding "normally". .... .... I found it amusing (don't know why) that the Niken will not stand up without a conventional stand. John
I had wondered about that. Was it more stable than a normal motorcycle at slow speeds? I could see that being an advantage on TdeF |
14/09/2020 07:33:29 |
Thanks for the link Jason, I think it actually says they "....provide a lot of stability.", not necessarily more than a normal motorcycle. I noticed a good few three wheelers in France and Italy in a road trip in 2019 so they are becoming more popular though still a minority of all motorcycles.

Thanks Robert I was surprised to find the fuse like this. I will reconnect it onto the live side. I will also have a good look for any weak soldered joints although i now have, hopefully, a replacement board on its way.

Another thing I noticed, the fuse is on the neutral wire rather than the live. Surely this is not correct? Again a photograph is here:- https://photos.app.goo.gl/L3EUa3MkUr8131hv5

i have done the battery test and the motor runs slowly with 12 volts. ( I haven't disconnect the belt drive so it is still driving the spindle and leadscrew). I video'd the motor working and link is here https://photos.app.goo.gl/4sUnL29fCav6GtU97 I have also taken out the brushes and they seem fine. Done the light bulb check and no light. ( and I checked that the bulb is good) . There is a potentiometer , red green and black wires. In the lowest (Off) position I measured R-B 4.5 Ohm, RG 0 Ohm BG 4.5 Ohm In the highest(fastest) position I measured R-B 0 Ohm, RG 4.5 Ohm BG 4.5 Ohm So it looks like a faulty board. I will contact the vendor and try to get a replacement
Thanks for all the help. Really appreciated it gerard

The motor on my Chinese lathe has stopped working. All lights come on etc. but the motor fails to turn . I am assuming that either the motor or the control board is at fault. I have checked all wiring etc. for any loose connections and also the fuse. My electical knowledge is limited but my understanding is that the dc motor should run from a 12v battery. It is a normal brushed motor . Could anyone confirm, if this is the case and can i just connect the two wires from the motor to a suitable battery? i have 6V and 12 V motorcycle batteries available. I have tried to attach photograhs but not sure if that worked Thanks for any help |

In my case, it might be a little slower. Unfortunately i cannot help - like you I can see no preference regarding the popup help, sorry.

I have 4.4.1 and it only shows these pop-ups if i halt the mouse on a setting, never when i roll over settings. Not sure about later versions. I have the settings. plugin - not sure of that makes things better or worse.

Thread: Triumph motorcycle auction |
09/08/2020 08:59:34 |
Thereof is no real talk of Triumph being in any trouble in the motorcycle press. But Covid 19 affected motorcycle sales in general. They have always been associated with Thailand so perhaps it is more efficient to consolidate all manufacture in one place.
Triumph is now a well known brand so i don't think the customer will ask where it is made. I see a good few Triumph around , Not as popular as some others .perhaps but they are a mainstream manufacturer.

Thread: How Best to Sell a Clarkson Cutter Grinder & Accessories? |

Hi guys. I've been left ...a Clarkson Mk 2 or 3 (large column) cutter grinder .... how best to go about selling it in the UK. (very small market here) ..... Thank you
Have you tried to sell it in Ireland? While the market is small , my experience, trying to buy a small lathe, is that there is a dearth of items for sale. Perhaps there is someone out there who would be interested?

Thread: Change to the Code of Conduct |

It s a difficult dilemma and I am glad to see Neil say 'common sense' will prevail. I think you have to decide if you are an international site or a UK site. many vendors are regulated by their respective governments/ local authorities but not perhaps to the standards you might expect. So who decides who is regulated or not? I am reminded of AMC motorcycles pulling all advertising from the then motorcycle press , and refusing to loan motorcycles for review, over their believe that 'foreign' motorcycles were being reviewed too favourably in comparison to their own. I believe AMC 'boycott' lasted about ten years. |

Old Mart .... no thanks. Tried it twice and didn't like it. Nor do I want to end up in a subscription model. Don't quite understand what you mean by subscription model? Windows 10 tends to be free and is much more secure .....
..... or so MS tells you .... But, if you're happy in the belief that MS is altruistic enough to update everyone to the latest OS (one of their major sources of revenue historically - but who's counting) for nothing then more power to you. My belief (I'm not the only one) is that, when they have enough users they will switch to a subscription model. It's the modern way and gives a far, far greater return. Moreover it may not be as simple as "we send you a bill once a year". It may well be "you give us your Bank-AC/credit card number and we'll take care of the rest - every month or the thing stops working". And yes, W10 is still available free (or was a few weeks ago - I doubt that's changed) and certainly is for those that avail themselves of the "update" that I mentioned at the start of this thread. Have you a source or a link to this ? It seems very very unlikely

Thread: Hello from across the pond |

Sorry Damian , my link was to a Myford 7 with screw cutting gearbox advertised on Donedeal. But it seems the lathe is sold, or at least no longer on the site, so the link went to the generic site. I have attempted to purchase 5 or 6 small lathes from Donedeal and from other sites in the past year and in each case the lathe was sold before i could get there, usually within 24 hrs. In the end i gave up and bought Chinese, which i am happy with. Good luck with the searching
