Thread: MEW renewal problems |

I am a MEW subscriber in the United States, and am a bit confused about how to renew my subscription. (My current subscription expires on 21.04.2019. I initiated my subscription to MEW in April of 2018. At that time, I understood that I could not subscribe by mailing a check drawn on a U.S. bank to the UK, and I resolved the problem by means of a telephone conference with one of MEW's sales reps in Britain. But I have now received a renewal bill via Royal Mail, at my residence in New Mexico, which invites me to renew by mailing a check in the sum of 53.15 (UK currency) to MEW's Northhampton office. Should I mail in a check drawn on my local bank for a the U.S. dollar equivalent of in British pounds, as per the prevailing exchange rate? If that is not the correct procedure, what should I do. (By the way, I find MEW to be an outstanding publication, and I find something of use in every issue. Thus the tender care I take with my renewal.) Edited By Joseph Reichert on 20/02/2019 06:16:29 |
Thread: Greetings From New Mexico, USA |

I have been a member for a while, but am only now getting around to an an introduction. I came across an outdated copy of MEW at a local bookstore, immediately realized that it contained a wealth of useful information, and lost no time in subscribing. I have a background in manufacturing, having completed an apprenticeship as a prototype machinist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, our equivalent of Great Britain's AWE. I worked at Los Alamos for ten years, first as a machinist, later as an inspector in quality control. I am now pursuing machining as a hobby, working out of a small shop behind my house. It did not take me long realize that the game really changes when one must pay to pursue one's interest, and has no government to supply cutting-edge instruments and materials. MEW is a great help to me in contriving the means to get things done, and I find something of use in every issue. My primary interest is in the design, making and testing of firearms and ammunition, and I am a competitive rifle shooter. I am also very interested in the history of manufacturing, and in hope to someday tour Britain's industrial museums. My shop activities include pattern making, casting, lathe and mill work, 3D printing, and the fabrication of tooling and machines. It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance! .
