Treppanning is a very ancient form of surgery and as you can guess, the most noticeable in pre history context. I have made a Roman drill but do not have a photo, I have specialised in ancient medical instruments, you would be surprised at how advanced there were. One instrument is the cataract needle Acvs as well as the crouching one that is also used, And also the Clyster, Enema syringe, using good old castor oil. The list is endless of the amazing engineered equipment they came up with which are still used today. This a beauifuly made Specvlvm Used in child birth. From Pompeii 1st AD. On the subject of gas less wire I have used this type of wire with and without gas on 400 amp machines, I am using machine Marts 0.9mm wire which I have used on car body work on a 100 amp mig which is good wire compared to the industrial wire I have used. Regards Tony |

Cheers Scrumpy it would be good to see it in action, I thought it was on the big side, just to be used to show how a steam engine worked. Regards Tony |

Hope this is the relevant place to put this. I have saved this beast from the scrap man, I was offered it for the metal for my work projects. There is nothing wrong with it I can see just the bright work needs cleaning up it has two perspex view panels to see the workings, and the blanking plates were stored in the wood base. It has no makers marks on it unless under the base. The paint is all good on it, so it just needs a good clean. Any help with make and date would be great. As you can see it has some weight to it. Thanks in advance. Regards Tony |

Hi my I am Tony Drake and I am a armourer mostly but also do a lot of metal work and restoration. I trained in the shipyards and coal mines ( great career moves ) but they have gave me a love of working and making things in metal. I must admit I am not a model engineer but I love anything that runs on coal. I have read through some of the post and you have some very knowledgeable and excellent craftsman amongst yourselves. I myself use a lot of raw materials in my work and hope that if I need a special piece of material some one can put me in the right direction, I myself might be able to help with ideas to how to get round problems which was one of the elements I was trained to do with the work I do. I would post some photos of my work but need to work out how to do it first, so I will link a thread on a Craticvla I made, https://www.romanarmytalk.com/rat/thread-30448.html So I hope this works. Regards Tony |
