i went today, my first time at such an event, and my impression was it`s like letting kids loose in a sweet shop, or, i died and was in heaven. thoroughly enjoyed it.

i know nothing about wheels, but i like your curiosity, if you are not going to use it as a wheel would your son settle for a polished sold band between the inner rim and outer rim which could be customised in some way, just a thought

whilst looking at model steam boilers and you tube videos, i noticed in every case that i could see, that boilers always seem to be made from extruded tube and none shown to be rolled plate and soldered, brazed or welded. is this convenience on the part of constructors/designers or is rolling flat plate not allowed ?

Thread: hello from nth lincs

J Hancock, thankyou for that, i might come back to that later if that`s ok

07/02/2018 23:45:05

this is the first time ive ever used a forum but here goes, thank you for the welcomes, ive a lot to learn and a good number of questions, pottering about and enjoyment is my first reason for being here. At the moment i would like to start with stationary engines, and to show them running to the grandkids and then move onto locos later

i have a lathe and small milling machine and a bit more time to learn how to use them, and would like to go down the road to eventually building model steam engines. As i`m now 60 i dont exactly have a lifetime to spend on the subject, its more a case of persuing an old interest and see where it goes without blowing myself or anyone else up. thanks for reading this.
