Hi Dave It's been a while since I done any heat treatment but what I remember is if you watch the colours changes,ie straw, blue the next should be dull red to 🍒 red. I guess you will be queching, bending or case hardening, next will be molten metal ...hope this helps

A ripper is the best choice and will do it in 3 to 4 depth cuts, if it's a 4 flute I would slow the rpm down a bit. Speed burns HSS out . Andy |
Thread: Using Chalk to Centre a 4-Jaw? |

Instead of using chalk why not use the tip of the knife tool to tell the concentricity of the work piece or better still use a DTI, practice makes you quicker. |

Thanks for your welcome. David, iam not sure what to delve into, I have been searching for a project to take on and will be searching the forum for a small project weather to make at work or if possible at home as well. I have many different machines I can use at work so while I still young (57) I can practically made anything in any material. George, I wish I had Murray's money so no it's not me he stole my name. The pillar drill is a heavy industry m/c and has been upgraded by my self so not a Bridgeport but suits my needs at the moment. Andy |

Hi Just joined the model engineer club so I thought I introduce myself. I did a 4 year apprenticeship with the civil service at the royal small arms at Enfield lock as a tool maker. Work in many engineering companies as a CNC programmer, setter operator and tool maker. 17 years ago got my HNC in mechatronics and now working for a small engineering company near where I live in Cambridgeshire. I have a small myford lathe and a sturdy pillar drill for a mill. |
