Leisure batteries used for motorhome/caravan/canal boat use are designed for low discharge over long period and are not that expensive. Maintenance free as well so no topping up or risk of spillage. Colin |
Thread: How quiet are silent generators? |
26/12/2017 06:50:52 |
I have a Kipor 1000w for use with a motor home and wish I had bought the 2000w model. I found the 1000w will cut out if the microwave is used on anything over half power. No chance with hair dryer etc. Noise levels are not bad but most campsites ban them after 11pm as they certainly are not "quiet". Also make sure the one you buy is sine wave as there are some cases of blown circuits after using a cheap generator that was designed to run floodlights on building sites etc. Lots of posts on motor home forums on generators, almost as many as arguments on which oil to use on motorcycle forums and don't even start on ethanol in unleaded petrol! Decided to treat myself to a subscription as a Christmas present but when I put the discount code in it tells me it isn't a valid code ! Will now have to wait until after the holidays, that is if the code doesn't run out. Colin |
Thread: Chester or Warco. |
22/11/2017 08:00:55 |
I have been reading this thread with interest as my next purchase will be a small milling machine. I bought a Chester DB7VS lathe earlier this year as my Haighton Cadet lathe was limiting in it's size. No problems with the Chester lathe so far but more research on milling machines is leaning me to a Sieg SX2P. The main discussion appears to be the quality of Chinese products of which the only one I feel qualified to comment on is motorcycles. I worked on Japanese bikes in the early 60s and would put the current Far East bikes in the same category. I purchased a Chinese copy of the Honda 90, still in the crate for £760 some three years ago. It was assembled, greasing spindles, brake cams, headstock bearings , etc, etc. It ran almost faultlessly until it was sold a few weeks ago, replacing worn out tyres and rear chain, oil changes frequently, a couple of bulbs and that was it. I have heard many motorcyclists deride Chinese bikes, all assuming I was on a Honda!, much as British bike owners talked of " Jap crap" in the 60s. We have to accept a changing world and I have no doubt quality will continue to improve from China over the next few years. Colin

David, I am based in Cheshire close to M6/M56 junction. Ah, Dave Degens- now there's a name from the past. Raced against him at Oulton Park many, many years ago. Colin |

Should have said, I have a small lathe for making spacers etc, now I want a small milling machine to keep it company and make more expensive swarf. Thanks in anticipation, Colin Wilkinson Edited By Neil Wyatt on 17/11/2017 14:55:03 |

Hello Gentlemen, ( apologies to any Lady readers ), As a total newby to machining I have no doubt I will be on asking questions after I have made mistakes. My main obsession is motorcycles, specifically older race bikes, so not all parts are readily available hence the need to make "stuff". Colin Wilkinson |
