I had the same problem, declined to take part in that section. Apparently, my wife doesn't qualify! Edited By Stephen Follows on 22/07/2023 15:20:39 |
Thread: Myford oilers |

Does anyone else get frustrated with Myford lathe oilers. In desperation, I bought two new ones from RDG….not cheap but I wanted the right ones. Three years on and I still can’t get them to work consistently. Some days they barely work others they flood the suds tray. I often think I’d be better removing them and squirting oil down the holes every half hour or so. |
Thread: Safety gloves |

If you must wear gloves thin nitrile ones tear easily. Generally though with machinery it’s no gloves no long sleeves no long hair etc. I got slated on another site when I suggested the danger when a user showed his eight year old daughter using a lathe with her hair dangling over the workpiece. Apparently, safety doesn’t count when it’s kids in a shed. One thing people often forget is rings, could lose a finger if caught.

Thread: Copper tube |

M-Metals seem to be the cheapest so far but at £123 plus postage for twelve inches I think I might wait a while and see what comes my way. Thanks for replies. |

I’m looking for some five inch copper tube to make a boiler. The best I’ve found is £248 for twelve inches. Anyone know a supplier who charges sensible prices? |
Thread: Collet chuck |

UPDATE ON CHUCK Spent some more time time today trying to get it true. Although the backplate had been machined and was running true the whole assembly wasn't. Did some measurements on the chuck part and found it to be out by about 0.1 mm in depth. Took a light skim off it and refitted it to the backplate. Ten minutes later everything running true. I thought the chuck would be perfectly machined, the instructions only mentioned machining the backplate.

Can anyone help? I have bought a collet chuck from a reputable supplier to fit my Myford ML7 lathe. Having machined the faceplate as per instructions, the closest I can get it to true is 0.08mm (0.003&rdquo The lathe runs true. |

Ah yes…the plug. There’s a moulded space for everything but. |

Why is it that when one buys a power tool that comes with a new box that you cannot get the cable back in the box when you put it away?

Thread: Every answer |

Has anyone else noticed that you can find any answer you like on the internet? I have been debating for months on whether to fit a three phase motor on my Myford ML7 lathe. Apparently the bearings will seize and the lathe will be a worthless pile of junk inside half an hour or it’s the best thing I could do and will give me years of wonderful service at high speeds. Who does one believe?

Thread: Mill vice |

Thanks for comments and pictures. Looks like I may have to be satisfied with 80mm.

I presently use a 50mm, OK for really small stuff but insufficient for much else both depth of jaws and width especially when wanting to use parallels.

I want to fit a four inch vice to my Warco WM14 Mill. Problem is how much movement I would lose on the Z axis. The distance of the fixing holes from the back of the vice is never given. Has anyone fitted a four inch vice to a small mill successfully? |

You're right SillyOldDuffer. Unfortunately, before you know it someone will want to split metric into coarse and fine....
