Thread: Britannia Tender kit from Model Engineers Laser |
03/12/2018 09:50:22 |
I'd be interested too, sorry I can't help myself.

Thread: Myford oiler |
29/11/2018 17:06:55 |
There are a couple of different types, do you mean the type with a toggle on the top to start and stop the flow?

Thread: Anyone bought a new Myford |
28/11/2018 17:34:49 |
There is something quite nice about using a machine that looks like it would be operated by someone in a dustcoat and a flat-cap... The new posh stuff looks far too nice to look at home in my workshop! |
Thread: Todays Mystery Objects? |
28/11/2018 17:00:34 |
I vaguely remember seeing something similar on a sonobuoy, or possibly a torpedo drogue? |
Thread: CBD Oil |
22/11/2018 20:40:18 |
I tried CBD to try to calm down my Phantom Limb pain, only kicked in (hah!) years after I lost the leg. I found it did nothing that couldn't be considered a placebo affect, and just made me worry when work had random drug tests! As you might expect, having no THC content, works drug testing wasn't concerned by anything they found. I suspect its because there was nothing having any affect in there. |
Thread: 1950/60 car electronic rev counter |
20/11/2018 17:03:29 |
The Jag rev counter I used in my GT6 used an impulse drive of some sort which I ditched, I used a device from Spyda electronics I believe. That was to convert Smiths RVI to RVC.

Thread: How can I tell if it's cast Iron |
19/11/2018 20:52:36 |
Posted by Martin Connelly on 19/11/2018 08:04:00:
I can usually tell when I am working with cast iron because it smells what I can only describe as earthy. Most other materials don't have such a distinctive smell. Martin C I'm glad I've heard someone else say it! I'd never have admitted it myself otherwise. It does have a distinctive smell. |
Thread: Valve timing |
19/11/2018 19:53:06 |
What about a vernier gear? different number of holes in two halves of the same gear, one indexed to the shaft and the other with the lobes on? or something of that ilk. |
Thread: Furnace build |
19/11/2018 19:51:13 |
You already appear to be youtube savvy but that was going to be my suggestion; there are loads of furnace videos on there, mainly people melting scrap aluminium etc but I think there are still plenty of people trying to do cast iron. It's worth watching if only to not duplicate their mistakes. |
Thread: Death of Model Engineering? |
16/11/2018 16:01:54 |
One other thing to consider, big tools are often a huge investment. My grandfather bought his Lathe with his payout from the Navy on demob, it's now with me many years later. It will someday go to one of my children. The bigger bits may be old but they are still equally as valid alongside the newer technologies. |
Thread: The new talking Mercedes |
15/11/2018 11:50:35 |
I've never found the German sense of humour lacking. However they don't suffer fools gladly. |
Thread: Death of Model Engineering? |
14/11/2018 21:30:32 |
People are more able to communicate with like minded individuals, for better or worse! It's evolving, but it seems to be holding steady from what I can see. |
Thread: gents unipolar slave clock |
14/11/2018 21:04:15 |
Glad to help |
14/11/2018 20:28:08 |
The options on the units he sells is 60, 120 or 240 mS |
14/11/2018 20:25:31 |
This might be useful
The electric clocks website supplies drivers for these clocks (a friend used one on a clock he got from Boscombe Down and asked me to wire it up). |
Thread: Do I need a hole in sintered bronze bearings |
13/11/2018 23:05:22 |
Would a sintered bearing cope with the side loads generated by a lathe? |
Thread: Do you clean up your rough end |
13/11/2018 17:15:26 |
Unless you are very special you pick up tools with sharp edges by the blunt bit. Leaving sharp edges on things adds a random element which could easily be avoided. I am trying to show my boys how to do things properly in the workshop, a few seconds here could save a trip to casualty or even just some minor inconvenience. |
12/11/2018 19:25:34 |
I don't, but I will now. |
Thread: Myford ml7 tools size |
11/11/2018 14:50:54 |
ega, I'm sure there are better arrangements out there but I can't say I've ever felt held back by the standard ML7 toolpost. There are quicker/better systems for sure, but its fairly versatile especially when using various size tools.

Thread: What did you do Today 2018 |
10/11/2018 18:39:39 |
I was involve in some of the trials work for the Harmonic dampers fitted to the Seaking rotorhead. Thats some big dampers! |
