Thread: Unstick ML7 chuck
13/10/2017 08:41:16

I managed to seize a chuck on to my ML10. Removal was kind of brutal, an act of extreme unction, terrible galling occurred. The spindle nose did not survive but the back gear I was hammering against did.

I replaced the spindle. The new one didn't quite go all the way in to the taper roller but I reckoned any future movement would be in the correct direction. It didn't have far to go so I reckoned it would quickly fix itself if it wanted to be problematic.

I bought the Stanley straight snips. Is there anything else I might prefer? I barely flexed my spending muscles wink

Question:- What can I cut 15HTD5M toothed belt with?

I tried wire cutters and it laughed at me. Eventually managed to chew through the steel reinforcement using her kitchen scissors but what a mess. It looks like I used a particularly blunt axe.

However, I never say no to a tool buying opportunity, but what tool do I buy?

Please forgive my ignorance in these matters, but that seems like the wrong order to me surprise

A gun has to be in proof if you want to sell it, pawn it or import it. If you only want to shoot it, go right ahead smiley

Hi John, all I have is the lock c1580. I bought it in sad condition on ebay many years ago.

You have made a Baker? Now that really needs a picture wink

09/10/2017 21:40:07

Bolek, the wheel lock man in Poland, sent me more pictures today of the Elizabethan wheely he is repairing for me. I could fix it myself of course, but if Bolek does it then it will work like a charm and actually increase in value wink

Thread: Stepper Motors in Parallel
09/10/2017 12:35:56

If you wire steppers in parallel, what happens when you switch on and they leap to the nearest matching position. Will the always leap the same way? What does your driver do on power up? Does it go to a set home sequence or does it remember the sequence at the preceding switch off?

Thread: A ghastly bodge
09/10/2017 10:05:15

Thanks. I like being called 'adept', quite made my day laugh

Sadly I am only a geek, I can do wonderful things but I lack purpose and staying power.

I bought the Roland because when they were new I was in my nest building/reproductive phase and had no spare cash for toys.

I hacked it, taking control of all the buttons, motors and stuff by rewriting the operating system to work with RobinCAD.

I added a suds pump and changed the screws for zero backlash up to 200lbf loading.

I cut some test pieces, half fitted a quieter motor, then moved on to the next insanity.

My life in a nutshell sad

I have thought long and hard about this...

I think it proves that my fear of breaking a spindly £58.32 + vat tool is probably irrational.

It also suggests that you think I should use logic to overcome my irrational fear.

However, if I use logic, surely my logic will remind me that I already have a working solution.

So this really comes down to how smug I could feel after successfully thread milling a smallish blind hole.

Difficult indecision

Yesterday I tried to 'move' a chunk of 20mm plate that someone had left lying on the workshop floor with my foot.

So the person who collected you from the hospital made you carry your own shoe and took pictures of you on crutches when they could have been fetching the car round to save you a walk.

Sounds horribly familiar wink

Thread: ER32 MT2 Collet Holder
06/10/2017 20:38:16

I did exactly the same thing, overtightened and snapped a collet.

The next surprise was finding that collets came in two flavours, accurate and wobbly. Guess which I had face 5

Thread: Diesel sales down 21.7%
06/10/2017 15:25:35

I don't think you can fuel a car with Orimulsion, even if it is blessed with one of Herr Diesel's little wonders smiley

06/10/2017 10:17:35

I get these TIA mini-stroke things which automatically cancel my car insurance for a month and put me off the road.

It's like a holiday, everyone else has to drive but not me. The dog walk starts at my front door. Her indoors has to do the shopping while I get chauffeur driven, Bliss yes

Most excellent face 6

05/10/2017 21:19:16

But is it sticking, does the new layer have enough welly to fuse on to the previous layer?

I am so glad we have you to lead the way. OTOH I have heard that pioneers get arrows in their backs, have a care emotion

Thread: Diesel sales down 21.7%
05/10/2017 21:16:08

I've never had a diesel, but I am starting to feel the need for a small van. I think vans are usually diesels so I might give one a go, so long as I can keep my beloved Civic smiley

Thread: T5 pulleys are rubbish
05/10/2017 18:09:46

After a very few weeks I have just received 6 pulleys, 17 screws and 4 Allen keys.

There is probably some twisted logic to the quantities but looking good.

I now await 2 pcs 10Meters HTD 5M timing belt 5M-15 Width 15mm Polyurethane with steel core Color White HTD5M Open belt PU 5M Belt pulley for CNC

edit: Needs an extra carriage return between the picture and the text. I'll get the hang of this if it kills you smiley

These things? They are so last year face 18

03/10/2017 08:35:32

MSC have a M6x0.75 thread mill for £58.32 + tax

It looks so fragile. Ping, goodbye £58.32

Taper and plug M6x0.75 from China £4.07 grind the end off, don't care.

I don't think I am cheap, but if there is doubt I am prepared to ask her indoors for an adjudication smiley
