Hi Keith welcome to the forum. A picture speaks a 1000 words. A picture of the connections in the box would maybe help to get a good answer. Post pics to forum regards Edited By Oldiron on 04/02/2021 17:04:43 |

Thread: Setting up mill |

Do not accept that the brake disc is perfect. I have measured new ones and they can be several thou' out. I would suggest you tram the table 1st using either the table itself or a known good large parrallel. Try to use an indicator in a collett in the spindle. IMHO The holder you are using is not the best way as they are not as rigid as they seem. regards |

I contacted Warco and asked if it was suitable for the mini lathe, but received a useless answer, so I'm none the wiser. So was the "useless" answer yes, no or non commital ? regards |

Thread: What inner spacer? |
30/01/2021 09:52:33 |
Posted by Journeyman on 30/01/2021 09:17:25:
Is there in fact any need for an internal spacer. If the two bearings are a press fit into a recess at each end of the roller surely that should be sufficient to maintain lateral alignment. The axle will similarly align the bearings axially. I am sure it will work without the internal spacer (I stand to be corrected). John regards Agreed John. I could understand the need for a spacer if the bearings were not pocketed and just a press fit into a straight bore. regards |

Some of the people on this forum having sleepless nights over a man in his shed drilling a 3mm hole in a piece of metal would have an aneurysm if they saw what went on in that factory.

Would it be a major job to make your own nut. I presume you have the spindle so will have thread size & cone angle. Most other dimensions can be a compromise. It might be good to look at the item about which he is talking - see Jason's link. It spins at 12,000 rpm. For an item engineered to work in proper balance at that high speed, the £60 quoted above is a bargain. I did look. But that £60 is for a collett & nut. The OP did just ask for a nut so the nut should be much cheaper. He then wondered what ER32 colletts fitted ?? Most router collett nuts are priced between £4.99 & £21 and some are rated to 25000rpm. As long as it a plain nut without any fancy features on the interior I still dont see why it is not possible to make one. Using good quality material either hex or round and carefull machining the nut should be balanced. Looking at my high speed router (25000rpm) the collett nut does not look all that fantastic or out of the ordinary or very hard. I have 3 routers and none of the nuts look very special. In fact all of them are flat bottomed with no special features. (just checked) regards |

Thread: Help with Tilley Lamps |
25/01/2021 18:03:32 |
I have a large collection of Tilley lamps and they run best on standard parrafin. There seems to be no difference in light levels using newer style wicks.Make sure the brass filter on the bottom of the stem is clean. Also check your valve. Replace the seal in it periodically. Only fill the tank 7/8 too high a level can cause surging. I get my parrafin from a farm supplier. It is Bartoline Parrafin, 4L also sold at B&Q. regards Edited By Oldiron on 25/01/2021 18:03:58 |

Bazyle. Hi, the care company tried to get Northants 4x4 club to help them but the phone was busy all the time. So probably extremely busy. Northants 4x4 do a lot of bad weather volunteering for the community. The care company have a lady carer in the next village but she could not get her car up the hill between her and Medbourne. They put out a call for help on FB. As my wife is friends with one of the carers she volunteered me to help out. JA. Hi, I think the Neville Arms is now the only pub in the village. First time I had been out that way for about 5 years. A very nice place to live by the looks of it. regards

Thread: Snowey trip out |
24/01/2021 21:46:21 |
Just spent 4+ hours out in the snow delivering a couple of lady carers out to an old bedridden gentleman in one of the out lying villages. They tried to get out there at lunch time but their little cars would not make the journey. So picked one up in Corby and the other in Market Harborough. Took them out to Medbourne which is in the sticks. Sat in the car for 2 hours whilst they attended to him. Poor old feller had not had a drink since 7am when one carer got to him before it snowed to much. Coming back the road from Market Harborough was closed because of a crash on one of the hills. Landed up detouring via the A6/A14/A43. Very thankful for my 4x4. So a round about trip at less than 40mph and most at less than 30mph all the way. At least it gave me a chance to get out and give the car a run legally Glad I could help them out. The snow stopped as I got home just after 9pm regards |
