Thread: "TINKER" tool & cutter grinder

Sam, do you not have any contacts in the USA that could get the plans for you. Maybe even a member on the forum from the US may be willing to help. I used to get my brother to get me items from the US and ship them for me but unfortuanatly he passed away last year so I cannot help.

Thread: Replacing a Canon printer with a Brother Laser?

Its main drawback is that it won't take pattern and refilled cartridges. If I try, it accuses me of fitting counterfeits and although it goes through the motions, it will not put ink on paper.

This should help. regards

From inkntoner website:-

How to turn off HP Cartridge Protection Setting!

You can turn off the HP cartridge protection setting in a few simple steps.

If your Hewlett-Packard printer does not have any internet features you can simply go into your printer settings which can be located on your printer menu and you will see the option to disable the HP cartridge protection. Just select the disable option and click Apply and Save if necessary.

If your printer has internet features:

  1. Open up a web browser and enter your printer’s IP address on the web address. Your printer’s IP address can be found on your printer settings by navigating your way to network setup options.
  2. This will open up the printer’s Embedded Web Server, click on the Settings option and to the left hand side select HP Cartridge Protection.
  3. Make sure you select Disable HP Cartridge Protection and click Apply or Save.

Thread: MS 'Edge' - Points and Pitfalls?

Edge works well on all Windows platforms from 7 up to present versions.

I personally use Firefox as it supports Adblocker+ better than all the other browsers.

Thread: There may be a delay in some deliveries ...

From the reports anyone wpuld think that the canal is totally blocked. This is not so. The ship is stuck in one of the 2 parallel navigation channels. The old route is still open for navigation. There are also a couple of crossover channels between the 2 canals to allow for such incidents. I think that only the biggest of the new super freighters will be held up. As they make up less than 10% of the freighter fleet, the situation is not as bad as portrayed by the sensationalist media.

It appears that the original reported position of the ship was incorrect. The ship is located in the canal between the Great Bitter Lake and the dualed section so my above statement is not valid. I stand corrected.

Hi DR-

Measure both diameters with your vernier caliper. Subtract smaller dia from larger dia & this gives you the taper per inch.

You would think that GE imagery marked copyright 2021 would be up to date.

Apparently some of the images on GE are the original ones first used in the first release of the software. They are areas considered to be of little importance or of military interest after release date so are not updated.

The new part was opened in 2015. You can see it clearly on Google Maps. Suez

Thread: Boxford spindle runout
22/03/2021 22:25:25

As said by Hopper :- " If turning between centres the usual way to ensure precision is to use a soft centre in the headstock spindle and machine the 60 degree angle on it in situ every time it is used, to guarantee the centre is running perfectly true."

This is really the only way to ensure any lathe runs true between centres.

Being 1949 vintage your spindle may be 1.5 x 8tpi 60 degree as some very early Boxfords were imported SouthBends and rebadged. I have only ever seen one with a 60 Degree thread. Worth checking before you mess up the spindle or a backplate.

Hello,

Thanks everyone, that gives me a fair choice, although none of them is easy to find and they seem a touch expensive if you can find them!

Martin, the drill came from the old BTH shadow factory in Leicester (It even has the air ministry plaque to prove it) The factory later became Thorn Lighting. It was painted in Air Ministry blue to make sure that people knew who it belonged to!

Andrew.

If I recall correctly that site now hosts Sainsbury's superstore & petrol station.

Thread: Broken Electric motor Junction box
21/03/2021 17:38:35

Most of the older motors had metal boxes. I would use the diecast box you have and make sure that you use insulated standoffs to keep the magic smoke contained in the box. You could line the box with an insulator if you wish too.

Andrew, All Vehicle Parts Oakham are distributors for SGS gases. I use Motor Parts Direct in Corby who are also a distributor. I use the medium sized bottles. You pay a deposit and the cost of the gas then just pay for gas on exchange. I find it much better value than BOC so gave mine up a few years ago.

Thread: chinese lathe
13/03/2021 17:07:54

At a guess I would say that the cross slide is using one trapezoidal way and one flat way. The tailstock will use the other pair of ways. The fact that that configuration has the way wipers points me in this direction.

BTW the apron is the bit with all the levers and knobs that hangs down the front of the lathe.

Thread: Milling attachment
13/03/2021 11:42:38

For a similar amount of money as the Warco milling attachment you could buy a stand alone lathe. Of course that depends on if you have room for one. The biggest problem with a combi unit is as soon as the mill part is set up you need the lathe function.
